Part 1: rockwell 6" jointer clean up
with the 30degree temp outside this weekend, decided to put some effort into getting things set.picture 1 is a rockewell 6” jointer i picked up at an auction for $100. this is my first ever jointer. right off the bat, i knew it needed some love. i break out the wd-40, 120grit sandpaper, mineral spirits, and some carnuba car wax i had left over and spent a couple hours taking things apart and cleaning them up, to a point. to my surprise, i guess alvin and the chipmunks us...
Part 2: rockwell 6" jointer clean up: cutter head assembly
in anticipation of getting ready to dimension wood this month… i decided to give my jointer more physical tuneup. first, i removed the cutter head assembly. i then had to grind down a 5/16” HF box wrench so it would fit into the lock bar slot. i removed the lock bar, blade, 4 hex screws and cleaned everything i saw: the “valley” where the blade/lock bar sit in, front/back/sides of the hex screws, and the lock bar itself as i do not think this jointer ever had a te...
Part 3: rockwell jointer clean up: setting jointer knives
after a tear down of the cutter head assembly, it was time to put everything together again and set the knives. i do have a dial indicator but it has a arrow head for a point, not the cup or saucer type end. i’ll have to get the correct end and also make a machined jig with magnets. for now, i used the plexiglass and magnets to get the knives up, tighten a hair snug, and did the ‘move stick 1/8” ’ forward trick. should get me where i want to go for now. i definite...
