Parts arrived from Blackburn Tools, 8/4 white oak purchased. Getting ready.
My Roubo frame saw kit (unsharpened and holes pre-drilled) arrived over the weekend from Blackburn Tools & Isaac Smith, thanks to Shannon Rodgers inspiration. I want to see how this saw can benefit my wood working experience. Will this be a valid replacement for a Laguna 14/12 $1000 bandsaw? Let's find out…. Wow…look at that 4" x 48" 3 1/2" PPI blade Impressive!
I purchased 8' board of 8/4 white oak (a species I've never dabbled with before). Using my saw bench, I crosscut a 26" piece for front/rear handles and start doing some hand planing and winding sticks for today.

stretchers complete. rough draft assembly just to get a look at what can be
Finished up the end arms and worked on the stretchers. Started off with hand planing to a large extent with winding sticks and try square. I did give it a go but ended up using jointer/planer machinery in the end. I'm just not good enough (yet) for 100% hand tooling. Arms are suppose to be 3" deep but I come in at 2 3/4" because of my hand planing mistakes. Added 1/2" to the stretchers to make up the difference. And then a dry fit run just to see how big this frame saw will end up
working on the arms and handles. rasp, rasp, and more rasp/filing
I used my bandsaw to cut out most of the waste. Then came rasp and file time to roundover the edges and to tidy up the round handles. I acquired this rasp and assortment of files via auction, no named, unknown condition…but works for now. I think I'll look into some new rasps pretty soon. My first time using a rasp for this purpose. Came out not too shabby but not 100% perfect. Will have a fair amount of sanding to do soon.
Spend a good portion of Memorial Day Monday to joint & sharpen the 48" blade. Assembled and ran it through a 8/4 white oak piece. Cuts like buttah Posting in project section now.
