How to UNwarp wood in cold weather - 11 replies
I am immensely frustrated. I know how UNwarp wood when the weather is warm and sunny. However, it is bloody cold in northern Virginia and I really do not want to wait for spring (unless that is the only solution). I have a collection of 1/4, and 3/8 stock that I wish to use in a project. Unfortunately it is all cupped and/or warped. Any...

Shaker Style TV Cabinet Plans - 3 replies
My wife has contracted me to build a TV cabinet for our new 55” flat screen. Given the style of furniture in the room she has requested that this new piece by made in the Shaker style. Question: does anyone have any suggestions on a source(s) of Shaker plans? I have several of Thomas Moser’s books but nothing in them fits the r...

Milescraft Dovetail Template - 0 replies
Came across the above template in the local Woodcraft store. It appears to be an interesting way to build dovetail templates of almost any size without the horrific expense of the commercial products. Does anyone have experience with the Milescraft system? If so, I would appreciate your thoughts/comments. Many thanks, Phil

How to fix an unsquare glued up box. Is it possible? - 34 replies
OK….so I screwed up. Built a rather large box of tiger maple (12×9). When I glued it up I checked it to be sure it was square…..all seemed right. However, this morning when I went to check, the box is now approximately 1/16 inch out of square in opposite corners. The bottom is set in dadoes and not glued, but there is no pla...

Router and Router Table - 7 replies
Thoughts and advice please. 1. I have an old benchtop Craftsman router table. The Craftsman router that I used to use with it died and I replaced it with a new Porter Cable. Clearly the PC will not fit the table. However, I am limited on space so acquiring a full sized router table is not a solution. 2. Here are my alternatives as I s...

Block Plane Recommendation - 9 replies
I am looking to acquire a new block plane. The Lee Valley and Lie-Neilsen are clearly the Rolls Royce and Bentley of the class. However, I do have a budget. Stanley comes to mind of course, but the reviews I have read make me shy away from the new ones. Recommendations would be most welcome. Many thanks, Phil Stevens

Router cut dovetail question - 10 replies
I have just cut half blind dovetails for to make two drawers. Unfortunately when I put the fronts and sides together the drawer bottom edges do not lie flat, but rock on the diagonal. I have never had this problem before. Any thoughts on how to correct this would be appreciated (please see photo below). I hope I do not have to rebuild them...

New Router Recommendations - 7 replies
I am in need of a new router and have been looking at the following: Porter Cable 800 series Bosch Milwaukee All three appear to have the features/functions that I am looking for: variable speed, plunge and fixed base, multiple collets. In speaking with the folks at my local Woodcraft store they mentioned that much of the router a...

Craftsman Router Has Decided Not to Start - 15 replies
I have a Craftsman router (1hp, 1/4” collet) that is at least 35 years old; it was my fathers. In any case, I was test cutting dovetails last night and when I went to do another test it decided not to start. Power is good, brushes are good. This morning my first thought was that there was dust in the switch, I will check later today. A...
