This all started back last month when I ran across some old .44 magnum cartridge cases and thought of my LJ friend, Jim Jakosh. I decided to surprise him by polishing and sending them to him without any warning.

Well, Jim being Jim got in the last surprise. On July 25, 2013, a package arrived unannounced at my office and upon opening it I found Jim’s “Corian Cutting Board . . .” that he has posted as a project on July 22, 2013 using some those .44 Magnum cartridge cases (c.f., http://lumberjocks.com/projects/87325 ).

This was a very touching gift from a great LJ and I truly appreciate his thoughtfulness. Also, I apologize in my being remiss in not posting this thank you earlier, but life happens and things just got delayed. Thanks, Jim!!!!!!

Oh, and when I took it home to show my wife, her comment was to inquire whether Jim really meant it just for me? You guessed: it’s in her kitchen, but I do get to look at it. Beautiful work.

Hi John. don’t be shy about cutting on it! It sand out easily with waterproof sand paper. i sure appreciate those shells and I use them all the time. It was the least I could do. I had you in mind when I picked up that last load of corian. I just had to get some 44 ’s in it!!

You are very welcome, My friend!!..................Jim

I like to read about stuff like this on here. It’s awesome.

-- Bill M. I love my job as a firefighter, but nothing gives me the satisfaction of running my hand over a project that I have built and just finished sanding.

This is what makes the LJ community so great—I was really speechless when I opened Jim’s surprise package. This is a real treasure, but I’ll be sure to tell my wife it’s all right to use it.
