« Part 4: Cutting the bread and a little spontaneous saw repair Part 5 of Walnut Bread Box with Marquetry series no next part

Well, I apologize to anyone who’s been following this project for taking so long to get pictures up of the finished bread boxes. I think they turned out pretty well. I put the cases together with hand-cut dovetails and I made the two pulls out of Ipe to match the knife handle in the marquetry.

There are a couple of things I really like about the design. For one thing, the way the door is hinged allows it to stay open while you’re getting your bread out. Also, I decided to use some wormy Butternut I had on hand to make the back panel. The holes those little fellows had drilled through the wood made a perfect venting system for the box.

Finally, the pullout cutting board provides a convenient place to slice that freshly baked bread once you’re ready.

Thanks for your feedback. I had originally wanted to more fully document the build, but I just wasn’t able to put the necessary time into it.

Very nice indeed. I like these a lot. The internal breadboard is a great idea, and your marquetry is both appropriate and nicely executed.

I’m with Roger.
I like the internal breadboard and love the marquetry.
Really makes me smile.
