« Part 5: Pocket Holes Drilled in Legs and Skirts Part 6 of Walnut Nightstand series Part 7: Remade the Nightstands Drawer Box »

I have the case of this walnut nightstand glued and clamped together. The Salice undermount drawer slides was installed prior to gluing this case together.

Tomorrow I will route a small rabbet in the backside of this case so I can fit the ship-lapped 1/4 inch thick backboards into it.

After that I will fasten the legs and skirts to the bottom of the case with pocket screws. The pocket holes have already been drilled. Once the skirts are fastened then I can measure the final lengths of the corner brackets and fit them. I will aos use pocket holes and screws to fasten the corner brackets in place.

I had trouble with the Crystal Lac wood filler on the surfaces of this nightstand panels. I had to re-hand plane their outer surfaces to bring the excellent walnut grain back. Once that was done I went ahead and pre-finished the walnut with my oil finish. Another oil coat will be applied after final assembly is completed. Once that coat is dry I will rub on some furniture wax to complete this project.

I also rechecked the position and layout of the legs and skirts. I placed a hole or dimple on the underside of this case’s bottom panel where the legs will be positioned. I will use a combination square’s 45 degree angle to hold the leg in its position on the panel as I fasten a pocket screws in the leg to hold it in place. Once all the legs are fastened I will fasten the skirts.
