Life Struggles

Hello Everyone.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m sorry for not being around. There has been a lot going on for awhile now. Some of it has been the projects. Not enough money to purchase Lumber to be able to Toy around with some new projects. Some of it has been in the hospital for a week getting my Gallbladder removed. Some of it has been my Old Lady being in the Hospital first with phnumonia and now back in with Cellulitus in her legs. And also the last thing was we were having LOTS of computer problems. We just bought a new computer and it’s running pretty good so far (Knocking on Wood).

I also wanted to mention that I have got now in my Possision from a buddy of mine a Craftsman CarveWright Compucarve (CNC) System. I’m hoping that some of the Scraps that I have laying around, that I tend to keep, will come of some use to me to practice on to get to know this machine.

I would also like to know if anyone else here on lumberjocks happens to have a CNC from Craftsman or even any other Brand name? I’m looking for some Tips or anything related to get me started. I got an email last week from Woodworking Journel Magazine stating that they had a Free Pattern, Which by the way wasn’t geared for Carvewright system,, to Cut a Bowl Jig for the Lathe. I was looking for something like that so i could cut one for my lathe because i don’t have the money for one and I’d like to get to Paying more on my Lathe then Making Dowel Rods LOL

Anyway, Please forgive me for my Absents, I’ve been away so long, I’ve not even Kept up on my Blog, I have however been Playing around with my Facebook and created a Page there for my Workshop and my new Store Front to try and Sell some of my Crafts. So if any of you aren’t friends of mine on Facebook, Come on over and Give me a Shout. You can find me
www.facebook.com/JimmyWarner75, My Workshop Page
www.facebook.com/HandisWorkshop and my Store Page @ www.facebook.com/HandisCreations, you can Also follow me on Twitter when I got the time to Update and NOT Forget LOL @Handisworkshop, @Handiscreations or @JimmyWarner for my personal Twitter

And as it goes right now, I got 4 Handplanes and I’ve not really used them cause I don’t have a Bench in my Workshop just yet, other things are on my To Do List at the moment before I can Build a Bench. Althou I wish I had the Bench First cause then I can get done what I need to get done easier, but unfortunatly, other things need to be done first.

http://handisworkshop.blogspot.com/2010/11/stanley-planes.html

Scouts Popcorn Fundraiser

Fellow Lumberjocks,

I know this is completely and totally off topic of woodworking of any form, although my Son Damian will be doing some woodworking to receive his Handyman Patch.

But besides this, I’d like to share a Link to my Sons Popcorn Sales for his Fundraiser, I’m sure as you all know, or may not know, Popcorn is the ONLY Fundraiser the scouts do to provide money for their Troop.

The money goes for Patches, Events, Outtings and helps other scouts that need money to purchase these things for low income families that wish to get their children into scouts.

So any or all help would be appreciated in helping the scouts. If you wish to help my Son and Scouts click here and goto his Page and check out what kind of popcorn they have to offer.

Grizzman, a1jim and David,

Awhile back Grizzman was kind enough to send me a few table saw cut off or as some would call it Scrapes, well these wern’t really that small to be scrapes, they were more or less small planks cut down into small boards for Scroll Sawing.

Grizzman sent me a verity of wood from Dark Walnut Plywood to Cedar Wood and one I think he refured to as Antique Pine, which all of these pieces will eventualy come in Handy, I’ve yet to decide on what to make with these wonderful Pieces of Wood.

David also sent me some Cherry Plywood that has done me well in my Scroll Saw Adventure.

Also last week, a1jim was kind enough to send me what I would refur to as an Antique Spokeshave, which is what it kinda looks like.

I’ve yet got to sharpen the blade on it, but it’s in excellent condition for being as old as it is, I’m not sure what year or who made it or even what it’s made out of but I’m sure once it is sharpened up it will preform as good as the next spokeshave.

I only brought this up because there are few in this world that care about others that are in need. Both of these gentalmen were kind enough to aid me in my woodworking journey, in providing either materials that were too small for them to use or was an excessive amount they had no use for or room and instead of tossing them in the burn pile, they donated to give someone else a chance at a great hobby.

Generally, what I do is make someone something for a token of their genersoity for the donation that they have provided me with. Since I do more Scroll Saw during the winter and limited on funds for the other woodworking, I just generaly do Scroll Saw til the funds are there.

And older tools that they donated to help out cause they either had no room for them or they wanted to see someone else with limits succeed in the success of woodworking hobby.

To them both I am Very Greatful that they was kind enough to send me some materials and tools. Thanks for the useful Donations you two, it was very greatful and generous for you to take care of a fellow woodworker in need, it’s the genersoty of you two Plus others that help others out that make this world and hobby an unforgettible journey!

Blog Disabled

Well everyone…

I don’t know if this has ever happen to you or not… And of course this is the first time it’s happened to me… And I have no clue why.

I’ve just tried logging into my Workshop Blog to Post some Articles from Finewoodworking.com about Spalting Wood, which I’ve tried lastnight as well, and it would not take my password. Of course this was on my iPhone cause I got lazy lol.

So I’m sitting at my Table as we speak trying to figure out why I can’t log into my Workshop Blog. Well I input the right password. I get (Your Account Has Been Disabled) and a (?) Beside that in Red giving me the Idea to click it to see what may be the problem.

So I click the Red (?) and it takes me to the Terms of Service Page of Google. Well I’m not quite understanding why I took me there, cause as to my Knowledge I have not broken the ToS at all.

So I have no clue what to do, I can’t post my Weekly Blog entries from Woodsmith Tips or even share Articals I’ve found that may be of some use to others.

Well what I’m thinking is Looking into getting my Own Domain Hosted maybe by Yahoo so I don’t have to deal with Blogger anymore… Work more along the lines with Wordpress or something of the likes and build my workshop up that was to the full capacity with pictures and a store and the likes.

Any thoughts on this matter would be greatful, it can help shine some light on the subject.

Hello everyone,

Been awhile. Here is a Small Audio Podcast about the Tater bin I’m going to be building for a Friend of mine. He is wanting a Tater bin Made from Pine and Stained with Cherry.

He’s buying the Materials and hardware required to do this little Job and I’m supplying my Little know how on the woodworking lol.

Anyway, here is my Second Episode of my Audio Podcast, with just a Brief Description and Dimentions on the Tater Bin, I think the next Episode will be a Pictorial with Some Voice Over, kinda like a Video but with Still Pictures, My harddrive is so full of videos right now that I don’t have room to record a Video Podcast and convert and edit and all that other stuff.

So Hope to hear from you about this podcast, hope to hear some Comments, Tips, hints etc that may help me on my Journey.

Money, Time and Feeling like it!

Hellow my Fellow Jocks, Bloggers and watchers!

Today I just wanted to post a little blog that seems to happen to me and probably some of you or will eventually anyway.

Money:

The Greater of all Evil, What makes the World go around, If you got it, you don’t need it, If you don’t need it, you got it.

Time:

Some have lots of it, Some don’t have any of it, Some it’s a little iffy, they may have it but not lots of it.

Feeling Like It:

Some feel great, others don’t feel so great or it could be one of them days that you don’t feel like doing anything, not because of health, but because of one of them Rainy day feelings, you arn’t motivated to do anything.

So basically what it all boils down to.. Is this…

If you got the money to buy woodworking stuff, you don’t have the time to craft it into a masterpiece.

If you don’t got the money to buy woodworking stuff, you got all the time in the world to crafter that masterpiece.

If you don’t have money to buy woodworking stuff, and you don’t have the time to crafter that masterpiece you feel like doing something with the woodworking stuff that you don’t have the money for Plus the time to crafter that masterpiece.

And last but not least….

If you do happen to have the money to buy that woodworking Stuff, and you do have the time to crafter that masterpiece, You just Don’t FEEL like craftering that masterpiece that you have been waiting for over the several past months.

I don’t know about any of you fellow jocks, but this has happened to me on many ocassions, More of the No money and more time issue with me, There is so much I want to do, but so little money to do it with, this is why I’ve not posted any new Projects, money has been scarce as well as Materials.

I would thou like to thank a Good friend from “The Folding Rule” David for being a Kind Gent at heart and sending an ole Woodworker/Scroller a few piece of some Fine Cherry 1/4” Ply to help me aid in crafting my next masterpiece.

New Nail Gun By Dewalt

New Nail Gun by Dewalt – It can drive a 16-D nail through a 2 X 4 at 200 yards. This makes construction a breeze. You can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence. Just get the wife and kids to hold the fence boards in place while you sit back, relax with a cold beer, and when they have the board in the right place, just fire away. With the hundred round magazine, you can build the fence with a minimum of reloading.

After a day of fence building with the new Dewalt Rapid fire nail gun, most wives will not ask you to fix or build anything else for a very long time.
This was Sent to me by a Cousin of mine in Texas. I thought it was pretty funny and thought it would be a great addition to my blog for a little Woodworking Comedy!

Enjoy

I have spent a little time thinking about Video and Audio Podcasting.

I am Slightly Shy in both aspects of Video and Audio. But I have been working on this shiness by overcoming it in Video and Audio Podcast.

I have decided that, As long as I get my point across, others learn from my audio and video, then I am more satified with it then what I look like no matter how goofy or entertaining I may or may not be or even as boring as I may be, information, demonstrations and how-tos are a valuable information source and others may find it more entertaining and informative and not as boring as others may.

They always say, you can’t please everyone, so with this in mind, i’m not aiming to please everyone, I’m only aiming to please the ones that are interested in watching my video podcast and listening to my audio podcast.

I hope that every one that listens and watches my podcast find them very informative and at the same aspect, leave comments, good or bad with critique in mind, I find that critique helps better ones skills at anything, weather it be painting, art, woodworking, scrolling, pyroart or anything in general.

So with out further delay, I would like to present my eh video, with some eh’s and pauses and the like.

Click to play
Hope you all enjoy it, and hope that you leave me some feedback.. And be looking for some more audio and videos!

Sled - Revisited and Edited

Everyone, I would like to Apologize with this Post, I have missed a Detail in my Video Editing, and a Fellow Jock has Brought it to my Attention and now i feel Embarrassed about it lol.

There is no Audio in the First part of the Video, I would say pretty close to about 25 Seconds to 40 Seconds into the Video there is no Audio, The Scrolling Text at the bottom of the Video indicate the Fast Forwarding of the Video and that DON’T For sure have audio, that was on purpose so I can reduse the size and time of the video, The key points, Tips and Hints do have Audio.

Sorry about this, I am still working on the Video Editing and learning lol.

I have been working on my Video Editing Skills. So instead of Rewriting my Entry here, i’m going to Put my Edited Video here, then give you the Link to the Markup explaining what I’ve done to my Workshop Blog

Flying Dutchman Blades, Bits and Chuck

I have just received my Flying Dutchman Blades, Bits and Chuck.

The Blades that I have ordered was

Blades:

FD-TC #2/0 (Two Way Cut)

Bits:

FD #68
FD #71

The Blades.

The Blades are made from Springy metal, I’m not sure what type, but these blades Spring and bend more then they brake. Of course, under certain circumstances they will brake, Under tightening, Over tightening and excessive Heat from Friction.

All in all, These Blades themselves are made from Top Quality Materials, The do not brake as easy, they are very well crafted and hold there sharpness for about the whole duration of your project.

I have red an artical that Said Normal Blades only Last about 30 minutes of use, Which isn’t that much time if you are a Slow Scroller, For a fast Scroller, you may be able to get pretty far on your project before you need to swap out your blade for a new one. Myself, I keep my blade in until I cannot use it any longer and expecially with my TC Blades, I have the option of using them 2x, I just Take the blade out, Turn it around and reinsert it into my Saw and I can now use the upper section of the blade as if it was a new blade.

This comes in handy for the low income Community that can’t afford to buy many, so basically you get 2 doz. for the price of one. Which is a great deal.

The Bits.

I have not had a chance to use the bits as much just yet, so my review on this is limited. I can say thou that these bits are really nice, they are a little flimsy thou which is understandable because of the thickness of the bit it’s self.

I have tried the FD #71 Bit for a FD-NS #2/0 and they are too small for the Spiral Bits, The upper and lower part of the NS #2/0 Bit is too big, you would have to use a 1/16” Bit for an entry hole for these Blades. The #68 Bit works well with #1 Blades, I’m not sure on anything higher then this, My Main supply of blades are primarly # 2/0, 1, 3 and 5 and I most commonly use only 1 and 3 as I find better control better cutting results.

The Chuck.

I’ve tried to use this Chuck, and I wasn’t very impressed with this Chuch just yet, I was lucky enough that my Craftsman Drill jaws was Tight enough that the bits was able to fit in them with little adjustment and alignment, so this is my preference.

I do think thou however, to eliminate my Hand Drill, I’m going to build a Workable Version of a Hand Drill you crank with your hands and use this Chuck on the Hand Drill, maybe I will receive better results in doing so as it will be slower in cutting, less bending of the bit and less friction of the bit as well.

I hope that this small review of the Blades, Bits and Chuck was useful, if you have any questions about any of what was listed here, please send your questions, comments, critique or anything to my contact on the top right corner of my blog, or you can just post a comment to this post, also by clicking the title of this post, it will take you to Mike’s Workshop if you are interested in ordering some FD Blades.

His Blades are as cheap as 2.75 a Doz which is Really Cheap for a Great product.
