I've liked working with wood for almost as long as I can remember. The only formal training was a couple years of high school wood shop. I had a great teacher – Mr. Bauman at Central Islip High School in NY – He really loved what he was doing and could tell I did, too. From what I learned there I setup a small shop in the garage when I was a teenager, and started making small stuff -- plaques, clocks, sconces, jewelry boxes – and selling them at local craft shows.
As a kid growing up on Long Island, I'd spend hours-on-end in the Sears' tool department daydreaming about owning all those tools. So as an adult, I had to live out the dream. In 1993, after buying my first home in Spring, TX, the first thing I did was turn the garage into a shop, and went directly to Sears and spent a few thousand on tools and supplies! Looking back I wouldn't have bought all Craftsman tools, but it sure was fun leading the salesman around to gather all the stuff I was actually buying all at once!
So I had that shop and did some amateur woodworking over the next several years, then had to move into an apartment for the next 7 years while all my stuff was in storage. Now I'm back in a house with a detached garage that's been quickly converted to another shop, with lots of new toys added to my collection from places other than Sears!
Outside of the shop, my real job allows me to work from home, but keeps me behind a desk developing software. My beautiful wife and I live in an old house on 3 acres -- we enjoy working on the land and organic vegetable gardening. I have 2 grown sons, one is a fine EMT and the other a most excellent auto mechanic!

Thanks for all the friendly welcomes! My first project that I’m working on is a router table…. I started it a couple weeks ago and see it seems to be a popular project. I’ll post pics of it as a project when it’s done!
