My wife and I had a booth at the Great Gulf Coast Art Show in Pensecola, Fl. this past Friday thru Sunday. The weather was fantastic and there was an excellent crowd of shoppers at the show. My sales were very good and there were some exceptional artist there in many different categories.
It is easy to spend a lot of time walking around and talking to these other talented artists. There were relatively few woodworkers compared to the number of painters, jewelers, photographers and ceramics. My wife and I take turns roaming around the show site while one of us stays in the booth. She knows that when I say I am going to the porta-pisser that I will likely get side tracked by the nearby craft tents and be gone about an hour.
These shows are a lot of fun and we have 2 more scheduled in the upcoming weeks. I am sitting in the hotel typing this on my laptop after finishing packing up after the show. Definitely one tired man.
All I can say is if you are considering doing some shows then go for it. A great learning experience..I find the juried higher end shows are the best…even though they are more expensive they attract a better crowd of people who are less likely to be weak in the wallet.
