Enough people have asked me how the Bow Boxes I made and posted were crafted that I figured a blog was warranted. My post is here “Bow Box”: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/68845. I have seen others make the boxes and thought you might like to see different interpretations of them. bigogre has done several. Here is one of his: “Box”: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/73998. moonls recently posted one with wonderful banding in the ribbons and bow. See it “here...

While this is the beginning of my construction blog for the V8 Degree bench, I’m not actually going to get into the build just yet. There are a few more features that I didn’t want to clutter the project post with and I’ve added a couple of demo videos on the vises. I thought it would be best to start with a full view of the bench and its operational features first and get into the construction process in the next segment.
This photo shows the dog hole inserts that hide a...

After reading many favorable reviews of the Ridgid oscillating sander (model # EB44242) and with a 15% rebate offered by the manufacturer, I finally bought this sander as my Christmas present. The more I use it the more I like the sander. I would have given it a 5 star rating if it has better dust collection capability when the belt sander is used. The dust just got collected at the end of the belt and landed all over the floor. I thought there must be a better way to collect the dust. Here i...

After commenting and following a post by MichaelJ, I decided that a picture or two is worth a thousand words. So, here’s how I do it. (I had also posted in the past another way, but I like this method better)First, remove the blade guard on your planer. Set the fence to the maximum width.Face joint the board as you normally would, until the jointable surface is flat. You should now have the flat, jointed surface and the “rabbet” from the overhang. This is the spacer board, whi...

We’ve all seen, and many have those half round windows. But what can you do? Buy a fabric, plastic or wooden fan louver? Why not build a wooden fan louver? Its really not that hard.
I start by making the outside frame to fit the window. I draw one line that will give me 1/4” clearance inside the window opening. I draw a second line the thickness of the frame marking the inside of the frame. Because this is a simple curve, I didn’t need to build a complete two part form. I just need...

A few months ago I spent many many hours trying to perfectly align a set of “box joint hinges” for my project ” A Little Cabinetree” After I finally got them working I installed them on the edges of the MDF sides and doors and then veneered over the whole works.
The only good part was that there were enough left over prototype parts that I could make a hinge for my next project from the cast-offs
Then this week I was making a tea box for a friend and when...

The first time I ever saw a box joint jig guided by a template bearing was six or seven years ago when a friend showed one as a club demo. His jig was a simple plywood sled with a fence, a wooden bar for spacing the fingers, and a slot through the base that fit a template bearing guide. If I remember correctly, his made joints with 3/8” fingers. Shortly after his demo, I made the smaller jig shown below for 1/8” ‘fingers on small drawers.
Here’s a photo of a jewelry ...

Last chance.
“Take the blue pill and the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe, or take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” (Morpheus, The Matrix)
So you took the red pill. Very well. Its probably easiest if you either print off the Ezee mitre blog or open a second browser window (not just a tab) for it and tile this one and it side by side on the screen.
Most of this boxes construction...

I was out making a set of doors today and I decided that the fine folks here on LJs might appreciate a tutorial. I realize there are those of you that should be schooling me on the matter, but figured there were some that would like to learn it as well. So I will do my best to give pertanent information. Thanks for reading.
To start off you need to consider shop safety. Make sure the guards on your tools are opporational and you have the proper safety glasses, ear plugs, and dust mask.F...

Thought I might start a blog to give some insight into how to build a set of custom cabinets for your kitchen. This seems to be on every woodworkers list, and with all the books and instructions out there, it can get a bit confusing. I will focus my attention on a faceframe set of cabinets with 1/2” overlay doors and drawers. The kitchen you build can be as traditional or as funky as you want to get. There are though a few guidelines that need be followed for everything to work out....
