Ok fellow Mid-Atlantic Lumberjocks, Its that time of year again. The Woodworking Show is coming to Northern Virgina this month. I would like to meet up with as many of you as possible. The Baltimore show was much better than last year and I am hoping this year’s show live up to that as well. I will be in the market for some Lathe tools to go with my new Nova lathe that I purchased last weekend. (that’s another blog for another day.)
Let me know if you are planning on attending and we can set up a general meet up. I have talked with Karson and he may be attending. I would also like to talk with you about a Lumberjocks get together this summer. I am open to ideas and locations.

Greg, Your in trouble with my wife. She bought me tickets already and it was going to be a surprise. She was going to drive me there and not tell me a thing until we got there. Anyway, it looks like I’ll be there.

And by the way, I’m very tardy about posting any of my projects. I’ve completed my tundle bed, entertainment center, step stool for my little helper (Shelby, my daughter) and a bunch of odds and end projects.

Wouldn’t be the first time I was in trouble with someone’s wife (especially my own :-) ) I am thinking of taking Friday off (can always use a day off) and will probably go at least Friday and Sat. May even bring my own wife (as long as I’m not in trouble.)

What day do we want to meet? I work really close to the expo center, so I was thinking about getting off early to go friday, but my wife wants to go to the craft thing so Saturday works best for me.

Let me get with Karson…He is coming out as well. I was shooting for Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, I was thinking of maybe meeting up in the back at the food area. Time is pretty open on Sat. Friday will be a bit tighter for me, I have some calls I need to take but will able to do that from my cell.

Greg and Guys: My transmission went out on my car on Wed. It’s being rebuilt now as we speak and should be done late on Friday.
So I will be in attendance on Sat instead of Friday and Sat. Sorry for all you guys and gals that were going to be there Fri.
My cell is available if you send me a message I send it to you.

Karson,
The transmission thing won’t get you out of dovetailing. My bench will be ready for you on Saturday. I’ll see the rest of you at the show. Make sure you swing by the booth and identify yourself.

Hey Chuck, I’ll be there today. I’m going to try for the opening bell but lets see how the day job goes….every time I try and make plans to be away from my office, someone thinks they have an emergency (“thnks” is the key word.) Its been a long long time since I cut a dovetail by hand, looking forward to seeing you do it.

It was nice to meet you at the Chantilly, VA wood show. I was impressed at Acanthuscarver’s workshop exhibit where he demonstrated how to hand make dove tails. He makes it look so easy!
I bought some new toys (sanding mops) and drooled over some future new toys (Festool and Fein). I found a really nice piece of fancy grained Bocote to make some handles with. Submitted my annual dues to the International Wood Collector’s Society and since I paid at the show, I got a neat freebie, a screwdriver set with a Padouk/Chichen handle. Very nicely made by Chris Nothnagle of IWCS and took another look at the fossilized wood specimen from antarctica. THE rarest piece of wood found to date. (see article in World of Wood – IWCS Volume 61, Number 1)
I met the Wood Workers of VA at their booth and chatted about getting involved with making canes for the soldiers through their chapter. Some very nice and friendly people there.
I didn’t walk away with a new bandsaw or other equipment, but we managed to drop a few $$ despite the lack of this. Nice turn out and it seemed there were more vendors and demos this year. Maybe people are traveling abroad less and going to home based shows, especially DYI outlets.

Sorry I missed you. I had a young son that was a little under the weather so I left earlier than I might have done normally. I didn’t buy much, but I did go through some money. So I guess I’ll have to look in the bag and see what is in there.
