Calling all Mid Atlantic LumberJocks!
I met up with Karson at the Baltimore Woodworking Show earlier today and I mentioned to him I would like to see a Mid-Atlantic LumberJocks Picnic or party this year. He thought it would be a great idea.
I would like to get a feel of how many of LumberJocks in the Mid-Atlantic area would be interested in meeting this year. I am thinking late June as a time line. Between the time school let out and the July 4th holiday. We thought that the Baltimore/Washington area would be pretty central and have easy highway access. If you are interested, please contact me.
We are also looking for a host site. If you are willing to put up with a number of “Wild and Crazy” Woodworkers, I promise we will be well behaved….for the most part :-) Please let me know if you are interested. I would like to see a couple of us take up the planning so the Host doesn’t feel responsible for everything.
I would also like to extend an invitation to all other LumberJocks across the country. You are also welcome. Who knows, we may even make this LumberJocks very first Convention! Wouldn’t that be a blast!
It all starts by posting a response to this blog so we can get some idea of how many of you out there are interested.

I’m in. I live in Columbia MD, which is halfway between Baltimore and DC. Standard 1/4 acre suburbs. We could have it here, unless someone has a farm or something more open.

I’m in, and have 3 empty seats for LJ’s! Free airplane rides over the area!
I’d like whoever chooses a host site to suggest hotels and motels.
If the plane isn’t full, I’d be glad to pick up folks from CT, LI, NY, or northern NJ, who aren’t nervous flyers.
The Sewell, NJ area sounds good… <g>

I forgot…
Southern Mass is OK as well, as the plane lives @ Windham.
I can be at most Southern MA airports in 15-20 minutes, in N9158S.
I now own N9158S, and as of Friday, will also own N197F… N197F is 65 MPH faster than 58S.
Anyone wanna’ buy 9158S? <g>
BTW… Bill is my co-owner…

Hi Gary;
I’m in.
Hey Barry, where’s Sewell? <g>
Don’t you have to consider landing? (Although Crosskeys airport is 3 minutes away!)

“Now, how do you get back into the plane?”
I’ll step into the new one my insurance company buys, after the one I exited over Sewell flies out to sea. At least that’s what Jack Bauer would do! ;^)
I looked up Cross Keys: http://www.airnav.com/airport/17N
The only downside to Cross Keys is if it’s overcast, there’s no instrument approach available. If the weather isn’t at least ~ a 2000 foot ceiling and 3+ mile visibility, I can’t land at Cross Keys.
I’ve been to Flying W and Camden County. Camden County has instrument approaches that’ll get me under a 600 foot ceiling. My wife’s aunt and uncle live in Blackwood, and I occasionally fly my mother-in-law down to see them.
So far, I have one possible interested passenger, from the Northampton, MA area… We’ll see!

I’m in Rockville, MD, northwest of DC and south of Baltimore. If there’s less than 20 people, I could consider my place, but I’ll have to push everyone on the back porch and in the backyard. (This needs to be checked with spouse!) There is Lake Needwood just north of my house that has a nice picnic area and lots of hiking trails and basic facilities. I think it’s a first come/first serve picnic area but there are some open areas people can gather. See map: Location A is the lake, Location B is a picnic shelter (Norbeck Rd.) that can be reserved for a fee that can accomodate 30-40 people. http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmIycG51BF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEc2VjA2ZwLWJ1dHRvbgRzbGsDbGluaw--#mvt=m&lat=39.11558&lon=-77.10055&zoom=14&q1=Needwood%20Lake%20circle%2C%2020855&q2=3131%20Norbeck%20RD%2CNorbeck%2C%20MD Zoom Out on map for more info. [Info on picnic shelters: http://www.mcparkandplanning.org/permits/facility/local_picnic_shelters.shtm]
There’s a nice lumber business nearby: http://www.exoticlumberinc.com and maybe we could have lunch nearby then go to this place to drool.
