I have been on the lookout for a dust collector for a while now and on Mother’s Day I was perusing CL while I was waiting for everyone to get ready to go out for dinner when I came across a guy who was selling a planer along with a DC (that didn’t work). I decided to take a chance and called the guy to see what the deal with the DC was and if he would be interested in parting with the DC separately. After the guy hemmed and hawed for a while he said that he couldn’t give it away since he got it with the planer on a trade but he’d take $20 for it. Monday I started doing research on it, it’s a Jet JSL-610DC, and decided that since I don’t have one, and I want one, this could work. I drove over to the guys shop, he plugged it in and nothing happened (as advertised) but everything was there except the manual (his wife is going to see if they have it) so I bought it. I brought it home, broke out the multimeter and lo and behold there was no power at the switch. I unplugged it, did a continuity check, and just as I suspected, someone had been unplugging it by yanking on the cord instead of the plug. I cut off the old plug end, wired up a new one, and I now have myself a working DC! As you can see from the pictures, she’s no cherry but for the size of my shop everything has to stay mobile, she’ll do nicely. Now I’m debating on whether I want to replace just the base (it’s bent and the casters are in bad shape) or if I want to build a support structure along with the base, please feel free to give your opinion or suggestions. I am also planning on getting some new bags for it since the top bag has some small holes and the bottom looks like it’s growing some kind of science experiment.
