Thanks for welcoming me, I really appreciate it. Here goes my first post. I hope someone out there can help me. I bought a 14” Rigid Bandsaw at Christmas and just got it together about a month ago. My question has to do with vibration!!!!!!!!! I have searched the internet and found a few tips, that don’t seem to have helped.

Here’s what I’ve done so far. Mounted the motor and saw on a 3/4” plywood base between the items (motor and saw) and the steel frame that came with the unit. Changed the V-belt thinking it was distorted in some way. Nope! that didn’t work either. I disconected the v-belt and ran the motor by itself. The motor purred like a kitten with no vibration. I checked the blade and made sure the weld was smooth. That didn’t work either. I seem to remember someone saying there was a way to balance the upper and lower flywheels, but I can find the article. Can anyone identify with my problem and give me some ideas on how to balance the flywheels? If this doesn’t work, then I’ve got a very expensive boat anchor on my hands.

Have you contacted Home Depot or ridgid service. I would think that it is probably an out of balance wheel.

If the blade is off does the top wheel spin so that one spot is always on the bottom.

I’d also try running it without a blade to see if the lower wheel is out of balance. or possible out of round. Try using a piece of wood and see if there is a high spot on the lower or upper wheel. The hole in the middle could have been drilled off center.

Our Home Depot here has been renamed to “Homeless Depot” . The people have no idea as to what I’m talking about. I have not contacted Rigid yet (I’ve not had good luck in contacting manufacturers). I’ve had much better luck with the guys at the coffee shop, but this one has them stumped). I’ll try your idea over the weekend and let you know what happens. Thanks.

I’m having the same problem with my recently acquired Ridgid band saw. I actually just posted this same question under Larry’s Workshop because I noticed that he had a Ridgid band saw. I’ve heard that this has always been an issue with the Ridgid saw, but I’m sure that someone here can give us some good ideas. It looks like Karson already has. Thanks, Karson.

Welcome to the club. You didn’t waste any time getting help, that’s great. That’s what we’re here for. I am looking forward to seeing your projects.

I do a lot of work in central Ohio in Centerburg. I have a friend from here in Billings that lives in Avon, west of Cleveland now. He is an assistant manager at the Costco Wholesale over on the East Side right now. I make it up there on an occasion.

Last year I went up to visit the Cleveland Museum of Art to see the Arts and Crafts Exhibit, it was great. The bonus for me was to see the Frank Gehry building at Case Western.

There is a shopping center west of Cleveland called Crocker Park. If you ever get a chance to go there, your wife will love you for it, take a look at the stairwell towers for the parking garage and look at the chandeliers I built. See any resemblance?
