Just a simple pen but I know there will be more.

Made from some cedar I had laying around

Wanted to try to turn a bowl. It didnt come out quite like i thought but its cool for a first try. The wood is oak I took out of the fire wood pile. No finnish on it.

I started out with some oak handrails from were I work. When ever we remodel an area we put up new fancy plastic hand rails so I save some of it from the landfill. The bottom is cedar. I had a blast making this but it took a long time and several opps. Like the cedar inlay on the toprail i routed the wrong side. It was a Christmas gift for my mother in law and she loves it.

I finaly bought a lathe its just a HF mini but you have to start some were. With all the nice mallet’s I figured why not make one for my first project so here it is. The head is 2 1/2” round 6” long made of ash. The handle is 1 3/8 round 10” long made of oak. Gunstoctk stain with a couple coats of polyurhtane. It weighs in at 14 3/4 ounces. I also posted this on the mallet thread.

My wife asked me to make a box for her sister which I made our of some oak scraps. At the same time I was making some pencil cups with more scraps so were giving her one of them for her desk shes a techers aid. I’m real happy how they came out I’m getting better at these boxes and loving it.

Her first try at scrolling. The saw was to low and wastn’t secured to the table I will take care of those issues today but shes excited to do more.

This is I think my 12th box and to me the best yet. I called it winging it because I didn’t go by a plan I just starting building and this is what came out.

This will be the first thing I have made a buck on in the short amount of time I have been woodworking.
