Mission Style Mantle Clock

I just finished this clock to give as a gift. I made it from QS Red Oak. The finish is the same I used for the Morris Chair and Chest of Drawers. Water based analine dye, shellac, mahogony gel, and 3 more coats of shellac. I printed the clockface out and mounted it to a 1/4” board and covered it with 3 coats of spray on poly.

Mission Chest of Drawers Completed

Well after several weeks of no progress I finally finished this project. I’m not happy with how a couple of the drawer fronts fit and will replace them when I make my next run to my wood supplier (about 50 miles away). I learned a lot on this project especially how not getting everything square in the beginning affects all other steps. The picture is not very good, but it looks good in the bedroom and is already being put to good use. I was able to match the finish to the Morris chair pretty well. My goal is to build an entire bedroom suite. I will be working on a desk or a bed next. I haven’t made up my mind yet. I have a couple small projects to do first.

Not as much done as I would like over the last couple of weeks. Its been over a 100 degrees in my garage, even though I had the door open, with high humidity. Couldn’t spend as much time as I wanted working. I hope to get everything but the finish done over the long 4th weekend.

Kitchen Island and Cabinet

My wife wanted a movable kitchen island so I took a couple of old cabinets and built a base for them. I then made a counter top out of oak. I covered the entire thing in bead board and remade the doors and drawer fronts. I also did something similar for a cabinet to hang above the island when it is normally resting up against the wall.

I am currently working on a Chest of Drawers. I just started this past weekend and only have the legs finished so far. The mortices gave me a hard time. Especially keeping the through morticies clean enough to show. I used a router and chisel.
