Took the LOML down to Seabrook Island this past weekend for some time with some friends who own a condo there. One of the things we like to do is go “Antiqueing”, except we all like the junk stores more than the Charleston “Antique” stores. A bit pricey if you know what I mean. Well we found this one shop and as soon as I walked in the door I saw tools!!!!!! Went over and looked at what they had, usual stuff, old saws, very worn, a couple brace and bits, but they also had 2 Stanley #5 planes one with a handle that had been cracked and the other in great shape, i.e. no problems with the soles nor the iron nor the handle. They also had a 22 1/2” Craftsman jointer plane. Well I loked at them, then decided to walk away and try to figure which one I would like to buy. The Stanley was marked at $40.00, and the Craftsman was $45.00. like I said. both in great shape. Well as we walked around, my wife asked me if there was anything I saw that I would like, told her about the planes, and she said to show them to her. Went up to the table she looks at them, then asks if I thought it was a good price, and told her I felt it was, and that I was thinking of getting one of them but did not know which one, she floors me and says “get both. I never know what to get you for you birthday , so this way you get something you want.” Birthday is not till April, but go figure. Took them up to pay for them, the guy gives me 20% off both right off the bat. Ended up getting both for 69.00. What a birthday present and what a woman!!!!!!!!!
