Lumber #1: Hardwoods of Michigan

The Michigan Woodworkers Guild arranged a tour of the Hardwoods of Michigan sawmill in Clinton Michigan today. It was amazing to see the process, they have kilns that hold 600,000 bd ft of lumber. They currently are drying 22,000,000 bd ft per year.

a few more photo’s to come

Old Power Tools #1: Antique Sears Craftsman Jointer

I have a few very old tools, This one was not in the view of my workshop photo’s. I’m somewhat proud
that I acquired it at a garage sale for about $25 ten years ago and it is still working. I made the stand,
that has a chip collection basket in the center door.
I did purchase it without any motor. I’m guessing that it was made in the early 1960’s. The nameplate
does say Sears Roebuck and Co. Simpson-Sears LTD.

I’ve been working on a table, for quite a while, and it has been done for quite a while.
I just hate the finishing process.
photo 1

Now I’ve been working on the finish foreaver and I’m still not happy
photo 2

Maybe I’m just picky but this is driving me crazy the stain is not uniform.
I just hate anything to do with finishing when my results are not what I would like.
The color is OK with me, But how many coats of stain should I have to apply. I’m on about 6 now.
