I just completed a course in the Rand school of technology to learn how to put pictures in a blog. Thanks Rand!!
I dont want to bore anyone with the general build. It’s pretty much standard. What I thought I would show is the way I did the pin that holds the top at different levels.
What I have seen in the past was a pin that gets stuck in a hole. But usually, the top and the pin wiggle. So, I decided to do it a little differently.
First is to drill a 3/4” hole in the podium

After the hole is drilled in the main post, I slid the inner post in and drilled holes in the front. These holes were 3/4” also. When these holes were drilled, I switched to a 5/8” bit to drill the back hole.

These holes have to be 5/6” because the peg to be threaded is 3/4” so the threaded whole has to smart smaller.
Next is to thread the holes in the back side of the inner post. That has to be done thru the front hole to be certain it aligns correctly

The 3/4” dowel has to be threaded as well. I have a Beall threader and boy does it make the job easy
Make the peg
Then a little test

The knob needs a little shape. But, when it’s in, it’s tight. No wiggles

Gary, You are thanking the wrong guy. Martin made it so easy even a high tech redneck can do it. lol You and I are proof. lol This is a neat tutorial. Where did you get the Beall threader. That looks like a shop must have to me.
Best wishes, Rand

Hi Gary:
Many thanks for your comments on my Sealover’s Wine Box. Having now checked out your beautiful work, I have to say I’m mighty impressed with your ‘dang boxes’!
I love the sturdiness of your latest … the podium. Great explicit photos too!
Cheers … Elaine from Duncan

Dang…I don’t know how I missed this. I’ve got to start paying attention.
Very nicely done.
