Great looking design. Just one comment. I am not sure how tight you are thinking of building this thing around the mattress, but make sure you allow yourself 3”-6” at the head and foot of the bed. You will really be greatful for that room when it comes time to put the sheets on the bed. I am speaking from the voice of experience here. The bed I made for my wife and I is less than 2” larger than the mattress, and it is a gigantic pain in the tail to put the bed linens on. I guess I could go in and add a little length to the side rails, but that would be a gigantic pain to.
Good luck on the build, and keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks for the heads up Rob. The last bed I made had a 1” buffer all the way around and I felt it was too much on the sides. This bed will have a 1/2” buffer on the sides (between mattress and rails) and 1” front and back.
Check out my last bed (one of my favorite projects)
