I built this exactly as it appears in Kassay’s Book of Shaker Furniture excepting the crudely enlarged hanger hole.

3.75” square, curly maple, top of cherry, maple dyed with light golden oak, finish is several coats of shellac rubbed out through 12,000 then waxed. i generally rub out all my smaller pieces and keep trying different combos of finishes. by and large i’m not satisified with most mainly due to application lines or drying times. i tend to pad on most finishes. some i spray, brushing on is rare.

side note: i bought and used a forrest woodworker II blade for the first time a few boxes ago and the cuts are so much better than anything i’ve ever experienced before that i doubt i’ll use anything else from now on.

5 1/4, 2 1/4, 2 1/4 figured and birdseye maple. i saw a woodshow demo for the pattern/style.

just got a new powermatic. this pattern is by donna menke. finish-shellac, waterlox, wax

some of these foot stools, used while sitting, were quite diminutive. this one is a naturally dark, open grained wood from recycled drawer sides. i’m not sure of the exact kind of wood. finish is blo and wax. cut nails, and pocket pocket screw construction.

original design, birdseye and walnut, doweled base canted at 5 degrees in each direction. one coat each- oil, poly, wax.

cherry, mostly accurate reproduction, the arch is a bit larger than the original. 3 coats oil, sanded to 800 grit.
