If anyone truely wants good quality plywood….Baltic Birch is really the way to go. It’s cabinet grade, has no voids on the interior, works well and looks good too. It comes in many thicknesses from 1/16 to 3/4. Almost any decent hardwood dealer will have it and it comes in 5X5 sheets. Yes, that is correct 5 ft by 5ft sheets. So, if anyone really wants quality and doesn’t want to hope for the best while really wanting to part with as little money as possible, then baltic birch is for you.

Around here (Georgia) that is way way too expensive and only comes in 5×5 sheets.
American made shop grade or cabinet grade birch plywood is more reasonably priced.
A 5×5 sheet of Baltic (or Russian or Finnish) birch is almost 2x the price of a 4×8 American ply
If, however, almost perfect is what you are looking for, and the size is such that you are not wasting too much wood, Baltic birch is the best.

Just out of curiosity, why do they make Baltic Birch ply in 5×5 sheets? Are 4×8 sheets too heavy or is it just that manufacturing 4×8 is easier?

5×5 sheets can be used to minimize waste when building standard sized base or wall cabinets. Plus they are a lot easier to lift when working alone.
