Currently, the big project underway is maximizing and updating the storage in my humble little basement shop (approx. 14’ x 11’) that I share with the furnace (yep – the furnace has a fresh air kit on it). I have a Delta Contractor’s saw fitted with a Biesemeyer Model – 50 fence (what an awesome fence this is) and a PC 690 router mounted in the extension table. The saw was upgraded with a red link belt to kill almost all of the vibration it used to have and a newer better and safer switch. The saw and fence are mounted on a rolling cabinet. I’ve completed the better part of a new base cabinet for the table saw. The new base will incorporate my router, bit and accessory storage; saw blades and accessories and drawers for other stuff (TBD) as well (I’ll post pictures after completion). I’ve just (finally) mounted my Dewalt (DW735) planer on a rolling cabinet having three drawers to store the planer accessories, nail guns, and other goodies. The planer cabinet now has it’s removable tray (in the drawer where the air guns sleep; for nails and a small oil bottle). And a (newer) cabinet having four drawers lives under the drill press table to house drill bits/accessories and sanding discs and more. The planer cabinet and the drill press cabintes will get drawer fronts sooner or later (I want to edge band plywood faces and radius them to avoid yucky splintering edges).

After the table saw cabinet is completed, the workbench is next. I need to make it a bunch smaller because I want to shoehorn a bandsaw in here somewhere so I can resaw the fine resources we like to build with. Y’all may think it would be easier to buy a bigger place…huh? You’re right but it isn’t happening anytime soon (unless the Lord has different plans that I do).

I pray my efforts in organizing and outfitting my tiny shop will help and inspire other small shop owners. I’ve posted some photos here and as I complete any upgrades to the shop, I’ll get them posted too. I’m thinking of posting shop furniture projects too as I do them. I’ve spent a TON of time researching for ideas so I’ll share what I come up with and maybe save you all a ton of time. If you’ve got questions or comments, let me know.

Hi Freddo,

Thanks for the pictures. You have an efficient and well organized shop space. You have a nice set of tools to play with as well. I really like what you have done with the table saw. That is a nice bench that you have built.

Thanks for the shop tour. I have really appreciated it.

Great shop in a small area, Freddo. I love your organizational skills. All the rolling carts! The saw cabinet is fabulous. I can’t see room for improvement there. I am really looking forward to seeing your projects posted.

Hi All, I appreciate the input and kind words. I can put my hands on anything I need ‘cause I know where to find them. However, “what” I need to grab “when” I need it to grab it in that small space poses issues. It’s time for me to carefully plan hand tool placement and some other things as well. AS much as I REALLY love those wall hung tool cabinets displaying a plethora of amazing and well organized tools I may not pull that off here (what woodworker doesn’t love to see a sea of tools). Shallow drawers and LOTS of them seem to be a small shop solution that makes most sense. Well stay tuned… The table saw cabinet is the first to be upgraded.

Hi Freddo

Nice looking shop. You are my kind of guy. Everything has a place and everything in its place. I am in the process of putting a new 14 X 21 shop in my garage. Thanks for posting.

God Bless

Hi Freddo

Great looking shop you have there! I appriciate people who are neat and organized.

My new 14 X 21 shop is just about done except for the back wall. I need to insulate and cover with plywood yet. Then I can put the 2hp cyclone dust collector up and start hanging the duct work. After that, I can start buying the big stationary equipment. I need to get the table saw first so I can build the shop cabinets. I will be posting pictures of the shop this weekend.

God Bless
tom

Looking forward to pix of your shop. I think I enjoy pictures of shops and storage ideas more than anything else woodworking… well and how the wood grain looks when a nice finish hits it too!

Hi Joe,

Moisture is not a problem for me. I share my shop space with a furnace that’s 84% efficient (an awesome rating) so that helps some keeping the shop space dry. Also – we have a pretty tight foundation so moisture is not a problem for me and I’m blessed not having those issues here.
