BENT GUITAR TABLE -FLYING V

THIS BENT GUITAR TABLE IS MADE FROM BIRD’S EYE CURLY MAPLE, VERY FIGURED PIECES. I GLUED UP THE TAPERED PIECES, THEN ADDED HARD MAPLE TO THE BOTTOM FOR ANOTHER LAYER TO GIVE IT THE THICKNESS. I CUT AND SHAPED THE BODY, THEN CUT IT APART AND MITERED IT BACK TOGETHER TO FORM THE BEND. I USED NICE BIRD’S EYE MAPLE, TAPERED, FOR THE LEGS. I MADE THE KNOBS, PICKUPS AND BRIDGES BY GLUING UP MAPLE, JATOBA, PURPLEHEART, AND WALNUT TO GIVE CONTRASTS AND LOOK LIKE THE SHAPE OF THE ACTUAL PARTS.
IT IS AIR BRUSHED RED, THEN BLACK AROUND THE EDGES. I ALSO AIR BRUSHED THE LEGS AND NECK THE SAME WAY. IT IS FINISHED IN HIGH GLOSS LACQUER.

Bent guitar Table -Sunburst

I HAD THIS CRAZY IDEA OF BENDING A GUITAR TO MAKE AN ARTISTIC TABLE. THE INSPIRATION CAME FROM DALI MELTING CLOCKS. I WANTED TO MAKE SOMETHING SURREAL THAT LOOKED LIKE THE WOOD WAS FLOWING OR MELTING. AFTER 2 YEARS OF THOUGHT AND DESIGNING THESE ARE THE RESULTS.
I USED BEAUTIFULLY FIGURED QUILTED MAPLE. I LAMINATED SOME WALNUT IN THE MIDDLE, AND MORE MAPLE ON THE BOTTOM. I CUT AND FORMED THE BODY. I CUT IT APART AND MITERED IT BACK TOGETHER, SO THE BEAUTIFUL GRAIN FLOWED CONTINUOUSLY OVER THE BEND. I PURCHASE A NICE GUITAR NECK THAT IS THE STYLE OF THE GIBSON LES PAUL GUITAR. I AIRBRUSH RED AND YELLOW DYE’S AROUND THE EDGES AND MIDDLE. I CHOOSE CO-ORDINATING DICHROIC AND IRRIDESCENT GLASS FOR THE INLAYS. WITH THE GLASS INLAYS I SIMULATED THE KNOBS, PICK GUARD, PICKUPS AND BRIDGES.
I USED WALNUT FOR THE LEGS AND SIMULATED A LEATHER STRAP GOING FROM THE BODY, FLOWING ON THE FLOOR, AND BACK UP TO THE BODY. I FINISHED WITH MULTI COATS OF HIGH GLOSS LACQUER. I PUT GOLD SPARKLE IN THE FIRST COAT OF LACQUER.
THIS BENT GUITAR TABLE REPRESENTS A GIBSON LES PAUL WITH A SUNBURST FINISH.

Artistic Cedar and Willow Fence

A friend, who knew I do artistic furniture, asked me if I could make a curved structure for her garden. She wanted it for a privacy screen, something curved and artistic. She had bought some willow fencing pre-made, 5’ high x 16’ wide and asked if I could incorporate it in the structure. I drew a design using cedar posts. I thought about using naturally bent cedar trees, but they were too hard to find. I decided to bend the posts somehow. I made a sample by bandsawing a 4” x 9’ cedar post into strips, making a form and bending and gluing it back together. It Worked!! I made 2 different forms, 1 a simple curve for the willow fence support rails, and another S shaped form for the top parts. I used a Logman Tenon Jig with my router and made 2 3/4 round tenons on the 5” posts, and 2” tenons on the 3” posts. I laid it all out and driled the holes in the upright post and set it all up in my backyard. I also made a bench on one ond, with cedar branches for the back. I took it over and set it all up with no problem. Then she said she wanted another one, taller and a bit wider. I made the second structure faster and it turned out beautifully!
The first section is 16’ wide, 10’ high with a 4’ bench on one end, and a 3’ section on the other end. the second section is S shaped, 16’ wide, 12’ high and a 4’ section on either end.
She is so happy, and I get great comments on it. The 3 pictures show some of it.

I used a LogMan Tenon Jig from Rocler. It is an amazing tool that makes round tenons with the jig and a router. I finished the benches with Behr tung oil that has UV protection.
