A local guy posted a listing on Craig’s List for some vintage Stanley Tools about a month ago and then about 2 weeks ago he updated it with a short mention of a piece of honduran mahogany to sell too. I gave him a call and set up an appointment to look at what he had. Last Sunday afternoon, he called back and I went to take a look.

Yesterday he called and accepted my offer on the wood. So, I left work early and went to pick it up. You can read the whole story and see the pics at this link:

Bruce, that was a great deal on the wood and tools. I look at CL every day and hear about great finds like this but have yet to have anything like this. I am sure once you got back home you felt like you practically stole the wood. :)

By the way any chance you are in the market for a new jointer and planer to handle a piece of wood this size?

Scotty,

I would love to have a planer and jointer big enough to handle this stick. Unfortunately, neither my wallet, or or garage/shop or the electric company could handle those purchases.

FYI, about a year ago, I did pick up a 15” Jet planer off of my local Craig’s List for $500 and it came with an extra set of sharpened (new) cutters. Yes, I look into CL’s often hoping to find good deals.

Do you know someone with a 12” planer that they want to put up for adoption to a good home?

That is a great find !!! I am not sure that I would even know where to start with a piece of lumber that BIG ! You should be able to make some great projects with that.

David,, From what I can tell YOU BRING a lot of luck to folks with all your good deeds. Now that is something to be proud of. All I did was find some stuff.

Great googly gobs what a find! I’d have to use it to make a table or something that kept it a whole as possible.
