OK, some of you might recall my “Danger Will Robinson” experience this week with my Wilton Miter saw. Well, glory be to God, funny how things work out. I’ve been pricing a replacement and was kinda torn between the Dewalt and the Hitachi. Love the Dewalt but the cam lever they have to lock the table is broke in half the store demos I’ve seen so that was spooking me a bit. Anyway just this morning they put the Hitachi 12” 12FCH on Clearance ot Lowes for $136.00….that’s right $136.00. The first stop didn’t have any but the demo, but that Lowes called another who had a couple left and put one on hold for me. I wasn’t counting my chickens so the ride seemed to take forever. But I have the saw resting comfortably in the back of my car right now. Can’t wait to get home and play! Check out your local Lowes folks, this is a hell of a bargain!!

Hello Jocks! My warning might be better late than never. In an effort to save a few bucks I bought a Wilton 10” sliding compound Miter saw last summer. Well the other night it went bonkers! As I prepared to make a cut I started the saw and the motor just started screaming, sparks started flying. smoke filled the basement, and the saw would not shut off until I unplugged it. The brake is now fried, it’s “loose” and trips the circut breaker now when I run it.

I’m sure I’m do a lecture on filling out the registration card and such…but I looked up the problem on the internet and found the following recall. Believe me folks the write up under “hazard” is to atee!

Jocks, if you have one of these don’t blow off the recall. I’d consider myself a true grit, rough and tough sort…but this was a pretty scary episode.

I’ll keep you posted on how customer service deals with this.

Buying Lumber

Good morning Jocks! Looking for some advise on buying lumber in the chicago area. I live in a western suburb (Yorkville) and I’m wondering if anyone out there has some Lumber suppliers they like to use in the area? Is Menards, Lowes, Home depot th place to go? I currently use them but it gets expensive when using oak and such. I have table saw/planer and can use rough lumber. Looking for Cedar, Oak, ash, poplar. Any ideas??

Quick tip

Hey folks, my first Blog entry….hope I do this right. Thank you all so much for such a warm welcome. Last night I was working on a TV stand for my roomate and I stumbled on a handy llittle tool. To sand the routed edges I used a puddy eraser to back the sandpaper to provide a nice contour match. I do some drawing so I had it handy, but they are real cheap and you can pick them up at any art store, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels and the sort. It seemed to have just the right stiffness while also being plyable, doesn’t get all over like clay or something and hey, it doubles as an eraser in the rare case you should mark something wrong. Not so rare for me, but rare for you folks I’m sure.
