The joy of a new sanding belt - 6 replies
It’s amazing how long I will use an old belt. I had one shred today so putting on a new one was not an option. It’s like having a new tool. I should do it more often, but I always seem to think, I can use this one for just a few more parts.

Ageing lumber - 4 replies
I had the chance to get some Florida live oak that had been cut.I cut some 3/4×2 1/4 boards. How long should I let them ‘dry’ before I use them?I have them in my travel trailer that has a dehumidifier running so it is a relatively hot and dry environment.

Admittedly not expensive but it’s all I have room for.The blade will constantly wander to the right when I’m cutting.I’ve changed the blade, tried different tension settings, checked the guide bearings but no help.Any advice on doing a straight cut with a cheap band saw?I’ve w...

Drill press router? - 6 replies
I’ve always been intrigued by milling machines.I tried chucking up a flat ended bit and pushed the material through.I set the drill press to the highest speed and used relatively soft pine for the test. It’s a whole lot easier to setup than a router table for small cuts. Here’s a picture. It may have some applications in the fut...

Universal router base plates - 6 replies
I recently picked up a Craftsman plunge base router on CL.The base plate does not accept PC template guides so I ordered a universal plate from Rockler which said would fit all common makes and models.Wrong. It doesn’t fit the router I bought. Many holes, none match the pattern on the router.I don’t really want to drill my own hole...

Old coffee table tops - 10 replies
I had an idea of using old coffee table tops for lumber for boxes I want to make.I found one at a flea market yesterday and brought it home. Since it is oval shaped, I tacked a temp straight edge so I could run it through the table saw. I tried to match one of the glue up lines, but on the other end, the joint didn’t match. Anyway...

Roll around tables - 4 replies
As with many woodworkers in Florida, I get to use half my two car garage for my shop. So, when I want to work, first I back the Impala out of it’s spot, far enough away to be sure no dust gets on it. Then, I move out the table saw, set up the folding leg tables, find the storage tubs with the parts and then, start to work. BUT, be sure ...
