While sitting in the shop contemplating my next project, it occurred to me that the three have a lot in common. I’ve never thought of myself as artistic, I won’t even buy a scroll saw.
But I do have a few pieces of lumber that sit in the corner of my shop that I want to make something out of.
I go over in my mind different ways to make cuts to produce finished pieces.
Diamond cutters take a raw stone and take pieces away until they create a polished gem.
Sculptors take a piece of stone and take away everything that doesn’t look like a statue.
Woodworkers take an unfinished board and create a part by sawing away the stuff that doesn’t look like the finished part.
I guess I am an artist, but don’t tell my wife.

I usually take away wood that shouldn’t have been removed. Art in reverse.
