I bought the planer about a year ago on Craigs List for $100. A pretty good deal and it worked.
I finally bought a set Grizzly magnetic blade gauges and decided to check the blades.

I was confused when I started taking them out because they seemed backwards based on the instruction manual.
I checked multiple times and eventually realized that they had in fact, been installed with the bevel in the wrong direction.

I have actually run a lot of lumber through the machine, and it seemed to work well, but I had no experience with the machine, so I didn’t know. The blades are two sided so I turned them over and installed per the instructions.

I ran a piece of lumber through, and it still works, hopefully I can take thicker cuts now.

Odd.

That is a pretty funny story. Amazing that it worked ok.

That is funny and amazing, I’m hoping that you noticed a difference when you turned them!

What are these Grizzly magnetic blade gauges that you speak of? I cannot find them on their site. Could you provide a link?

Thanks, I looked at these awhile back and remember them being much more expensive. Just ordered them. I could definitely use these on my planer.

U’r welcome.
I am an absolute noob with the planer, and it worked right the first time for me.

I have bought a couple of planes that just didn’t work well at all … took them home and turned the iron over and was amazed at how well they worked. (After a touch up on the stone of course)
A friend wanted me to loan him a good blade for his table saw, all his did was smoke and burn the wood … Yep you guessed it … the blade was in backwords.
moral to this story … look very carefully at the tool, and never overlook the obvious.
