One of the problems that I have to overcome is matching the new bricks to the 30 year old bricks that are on the house. Because the front of the shop will have a 4’ high by 8’ wide window where my woodworking bench will be placed and around the window will be 2 fake shutters & the wall will be covered in a brick veneer. Problem: The original style bricks are no longer made. I went to brick makers all over St.Louis to try & find a match and the best that I could find is the fourth & fifth bricks from the top of the stack pictured. After playing with many different combinations of cement, mortar mix, grout & concrete bonder additive I came up with the 2 step process that I used on the third brick down on the stack. It’s a pretty darn good match. I believe that I have it worked out. As a base… I’m using the same red bricks that I used to brick in the window openings in the basement. I have to color about 750 bricks.
