Hate to say it, but, while your version is fine, my rendition definitely needs more cowbell.

Shavings To Know

Maybe I’m too young to know about splinters.
Maybe it’s just a woodpeckers crush.
I took the time to hand plane.

When I see you
my purple heart soars.
When I cut you
I’m nothing but yours.

How was I suppose to know
that fire was not all wood was for?
It took me this long to carve
what I truly wanted to know.

It may never be the same
for the wood I burnt.
Have I already hacked you

I had to take the dust,
shavings to know.
I had to learn about wood grain,
shavings to know.

I only hope that was just dust I ate.
