I am an avid collector of cut-offs, great for the pieces I love to build. We have 2 local wood specialty stores that sell them, quite nice, yes quite nice. As I collect these fine specimens, I share them with people who may need a nice “chunk” of wood. I offered one to friend who was making a gift for his wife, the first thing he did was smell the wood! I wondered for a moment, and it makes “sense”, at least to me. I love wood, the scent being one of my favorites. I have no doubt, any one of us lumberjocks walking into a shop during work time could honestly say, “Who’s cutting walnut” or “Man, I love the smell of Pine”. I am sure other woods have distinct scents, so my challenge to all of us, stop and take note during the projects we make, take the time to “get the scent of woodworking”. Happy New Year!!!
