DESCRIPTION
Sanding downdraft table to be used on a bench or other. 3 perforated top plates, 2 of which can be exchanged out for non-perforated plates to use on smaller objects.
TIMING AND GENERAL FORMATI cut this out about a month ago, all but the perforated top plates. Then was going to put it together with pocket screws for practice, but the 7/16 ply is just too thin for reliably placing pocket screws. While getting my Kreg jig set up on a board, I noted my RAS needed tuning, actuall...

For those of you who asked me for a tutorial on how to make the zig zag legless vegetable death table (cutting board), here is my best shot. I am far too impatient to take photos when I work, so I decided to illustrate the process using some good old Adobe PhotoShop. I hope you find this useful and informative.
I will outline the process in 10 steps below. I have assumed that when viewing these steps that basic woodworking skills are familiar to you. If you have questions, or run into snag...

This is a second generation Steps cutting board made out of walnut, maple, and cherry. The first Steps board I made used a basic square with edge of maple and cherry to make it a block and a notch to do the stepping. I wanted to try to make a stepping board using the hex Tumbling Block design, and this is what I came up with.
In order to make the hex do the stepping, I needed to notch all three sides, as can be seen in the Sketchup drawing. The cool thing here is that it steps in two di...

I recently uploaded pictures of a cutting board (http://lumberjocks.com/projects/30543) and several fellow LJs asked me to show how it was put together. Subsequently, Patron quickly deduced the process and wrote a nice blog showing the step by step process for how to achieve the pattern. I encourage anyone who is interested to take a look because he has some nice pictures outlining the process. http://lumberjocks.com/patron/blog/15074. I thought I would add a short amendment to his blog de...

This is a new style of cutting board (at least new to me). I was thinking about 3D designs on the way home from work last week, after Martyn’s Blog and Steve’s Video. So I came up with this. Kind of Sinister, kind of Tumbling block. Once I drew it out, it reminded me of Staggered Stairs (which are kind of cool), and reminded Karen of the Steps on the Row Houses in Baltimore. So that is how the name came about.
I started with 6/4 walnut cut into 10 inch strips. This small length makes ...

After posting the ‘Pattern of Four’ aka ‘Snakes’ box it occurred to me that it must be able to be done in solid wood, not just veneer. Another challenge methinks. Heres the pattern
I think this can be reduced to its simplest components. Two types of square; one made up of four triangles and the other a simple square with sides half the length of the first. Each individual snake pattern is made up of four triangles and one square. Trust me I’ve seen the patterns ...
