So this is the shop I work in. It’s not my shop, but my place of work as I am a professional cabinet maker. Fortunately I can use the shop after hours and on weekends. My colleagues often find me in a pile of shavings or pounding dovetails when they show up at 7, they think I am crazy…
The shop is something around 600 m2, and there is an upper level that has about another 200 m2. The upstairs is mainly our stock for appliances ( we do a lot of kitchens and the boss has deals with Siemens if he buys a certain amount of kits in a year), pull- out trash cans, drawers, anything we don’t want to look at , etc. We also have our break room and lockers up there. The sink is up there, which is a horrible idea, and a pain in the butt, as is the belt sander.
I’ll take a break here to let you know that Boss doesn’t like real wood, too much work and not enough money. He only has taste for money. I see endless pallets of white melamine particle board.
Downstairs is where the work gets done. Most of my time at work is spent at the striebig, the edgebander, the cnc, and then the work table. My favorites are the Martin planer and jointer, they are ancient but still work well, although it takes some time to change knives.
The shaper and sliding table saw run alright but of course I wouldn’t mind new ones.
In all there are 5 of us, but Boss doesn’t work much, one guy is practically always out delivering, fitting , or repairing and he usually has “the boy” with him, who is only here 3 days a week. So most of the time it’s just me and my colleague Fabien.
