New counter top

M son wants a new counter top for his kitchen… The old one is made of formica & particle board and has started to swell… I don’t have a jointer or shaper but i do have a table saw … I plan to make the counter out of pine, 3/4” x 5 1/2” ...It will be 40” wide by 96”... It will be L shapped and have a cutout for the sink… So what problems do my fellow LJ”s think I will encounter… Any and all sugestions apreciated…..... thanks Ed
