My mom had a lot of little dishes left from a child’s playset she had when she was a kid. She wanted me to build a miniature hutch similar to a Shaker style to display the different things. There’s only 2 pictures, but there’s not really much to see. This hutch looks rough, which was intentional. I applied many coats of paint, removing portions of a coat in different places each time. I beat up the edges a little to help make it look like it had been around for 100 years or so.

This was my first carving project. I’d never carved before. Since completing this I’ve made several more with various differences for flip-flop lovers.

When a friend was 3, her grandfather carved her name into a plank of wood. Her daughter is now 3, and she asked me to make one for her daughter. This is carved from white pine. It’s 5”x25” and is entirely hand carved.

Some friends bought a REALLY nice leather couch, but the cup holder insert was plastic and made the couch look cheap. I made this from oak, and without most of the tools I currently own. I only had a bandsaw and a Dremel.

I purchased plans for this table online. I cut the pieces as instructed, but during assembly I quickly realized the cruel fact that you need a perfect shop and a million dollars in tools to build as instructed. Many things I had to go back and make new cut, and re-engineer a few points, but overall I’m pleased with this project. The top is made from untreated lumber, and treated with Thompson’s color tinted water seal. The seats and base are made from pressure treated lumber, and then treated with Thompson’s.

From the Pixar movie Cars, this is “Mater”. I carved him from basswood for a friend. All parts are hand carved, except the tow rope, the eyes, and a few metal hooks for accessories. The rearview mirrors are made from bamboo skewers.
