Well I mentioned in passing about how nice a stone wall would be in our family room with cabinets built-in on the sides. Didn’t really mean anything by it other than the fact I had seen it in home reno shows and magazines and liked it. The boss says “Think you can get it done before Christmas!!!”..... And so it began.

The plan is pretty basic. Frame out a wall to put my TV on and put our electric fireplace insert into. Here was the progress of framing the wall, sheeting it with 1/2 drywall and then putting on the ‘stone’. Now here is where I cheat a bit. It’s not really stone. It’s plaster cast to look like stone and it gets installed with double sided tape. I doubted the adhesive quality of this tape until I went to the supply shop and tried to pry one off the wall that they had on display. Didn’t budge. Then as I was installing them, a couple of times the stone stuck to the drywall before I had a chance to get it perfectly in place. The only way to get it off without breaking it was to use a putty knife down between tape and drywall. So I’m pretty confident that these aren’t going anywhere. Here are some pics of the wall framing and completion. Part two will include some pics of the progress on the cabinets.

Thanks for looking. Oh ya, if anyone is looking for the plans for my kickbutt media center you see holding my dvd and set-top box, it’s a secret. But I’ll give you a hint (2×10 stock + construction screws) :-)
