« Part 2: New Tools! Part 3 of Shop in the Sky series Part 4: FINALLY got the walls up! »

So, I haven’t had a lot of time in the shop, but I did have the chance to make some dust tonight! I got a new table saw last week and FINALLY got a chance to use it today, ripping down some flooring for a customer. Also picked up one of the Harbor Freight workbenches and got that set up. Not the best in the world, but it works ok for now…

How resistant to racking or wobble is the workbench?

Congratulations on the new saw!

It stands up pretty well. They list it as being oak, but it isn’t. It looks like it’s made from Hevea (rubberwood).

For now, It’s my primary bench until I can build one to my liking. After that, I think it will be a great secondary bench.

Surprisingly, it doesn’t wobble, and I’ve beaten on it pretty hard and haven’t seen any hint of racking. Amazing, since the hardware didn’t seem too hefty.

The clamp is probably a 6 out of 10, and the wood dogs are pretty much worthless. The small steel ones that come with it are nice though. I mostly use them to hold pieces while I sand them. If you can find it on sale or use a coupon, I’d say go for it. I got mine for just over $100 out the door. Can’t complain too much.
