Now THESE are Forstner bits!

Now THESE are Forstner bits!

These huge Forstner style bits were bought on eBay from this company that I have bought numerous items from, tools and electronics. A cold rainy weekend would be ideal to go through all the unrelated interesting items that they have. The 80mm bit cost $A14.27 and the 95mm one $A18.37 including delivery. As can be seen, these Tungsten tipped bits cut cleanly and there was no sign of eccentricity.http://uxcell.com/

Best double-sided tape I've used

Best double-sided tape I've used

404 days ago by Beezle | 6 comments »

I have tried many different methods of holding down work while routing or otherwise machining wood. Most work well enough, but I also happen to use a CNC milling machine to cut wood and in that case the material needs to be very stable and the thickness added by the tape must be consistent. Not to mention not damage anything upon removal. It’s a lot to ask and there seems to be a lot of different tapes out there. I recently noticed that Micro Fence sells a tape and I thought I wou...

Etekcity 3 Pack Wireless Controlled Outlet socket with remote

I bought these in Jan 2013 and so far everything has worked better than I anticipated. Originally, I bought a single unit but it worked so well that I ordered the three pack. The first one is hooked up to the shop vac/Dust Deputy. The second one is connected to a box fan/filter combo. The third one is connected to my 2hp Harbor Freight Dust collector! :-) I have started/stopped the DC at least 20 times so far. I have had no issues with the remote starting or stopping any of the three mac...

WS3000 Wide Blade Attachment - Fixed!

WS3000 Wide Blade Attachment - Fixed!

1471 days ago by BigJimAK | 17 comments »

I recently picked up a WorkSharp 3000 after trying my hand at tuning some bevel-up Veritas 3/16” thick A2 steel plane blades. The instructions say to attach the wide blade guide, leveling it with the sharpening sandpaper. Unfortunately, it won’t go down that far, because the inside of some of the supports squeeze against a raised piece of the machine. Sooo… I got out my Dremel and a carborundum cutting wheel and trimmed them back. I’ve attached a picture showing where ...

Great scraper burnisher

Great scraper burnisher

923 days ago by Tennwood | 12 comments »

I had a Woodcraft coupon about to expire and no other great needs at the time, so I bought the Veritas Variable Burnisher on a whim. (Actually what I went in for they didn’t have in stock that day). I normally sharpen my scrapers using a wet stone and round burnisher getting ok results. I can always get shavings, but not like they should be. Retail cost of the Veritas is $32.50, but with my coupon, I figured I couldn’t loose too much. It turned out to be a great deal. The i...

For the production of architraves in my house I recently decided to pick up a cove cutting jig on sale at rockler. This is a video review of the product. I’ll let the video speak and not repeat everything here. If it works for me it can work for anyone. Thanks for watching.

Tool Review - Veritas Set-Up Blocks

Tool Review - Veritas Set-Up Blocks

Veritas Set-Up Blocks(ed. note: This is a companion post from www.randallprice.com).For the first tool review on www.randallprice.com I’ve chosen a one that is by far the of the most often used tools in my shop and one that has raised the accuracy and precision of my work to a new level – VeritasĀ® Set-Up Blocks. As you may have already found, transferring measurements is a much more accurate method of set up than taking a measurement from a rule. This is where the Veritas set-u...

Hand sanding that I actually like doing...really

Hand sanding that I actually like doing...really

1480 days ago by Tim Dahn | 22 comments »

Bill Bush was at the Chantilly Va. wood show this spring demonstrating his finishing products, so I had a seat, watched and listened as he showed how he finishes his projects. I did not purchase the kit but rather the Bush oil, some PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) sand paper, fiber pads and a DVD. I have since called to order additional sand paper and a couple sanding blocks, so this review is for the sanding products and the technique he uses, and well I use it now too. First the PSA sand...

Hook & Loop sand paper

Hook & Loop sand paper

From a recommendation of a Fellow Lumberjock ( Sorry Don’t remember who ) I decided to try this sandpaper. It is one of the best prices around that I could find and I needed to restock a bunch all at once. I bought 40,80,100,120,150,180,220 & 320 grits, all 50 per box. Price range from $12.95 to $11.95/box. I received a discount for buying more than fifty dollars worth so I spent around 76 bucks. I have been using Norton’s from Home Depot $14.95 for 25. ( which did not last...

Sun Brand Random Orbital Discs

Sun Brand Random Orbital Discs

Bought these at the wood show. We have gone through 6 boxes of them. However I didn’t count how many times a disc went flying. The velcro/hook and loop on the back doesn’t seem to stick that well. It’s not that the pad was worn out, one of the sanders we tried them on was new. For the most part they work, but you get what you pay for.
