Edit 4/3/13: My wife was so excited about her desk, I had to get the hutch done a.s.a.p. Still needs a little trim work, adding a light and a rack for ribbon, but other than that, this thing is DONE! Now, as long as I can keep her contained to that side of the room, we will have a long and healthy marriage :)
I just finished building this craft desk for my wife. For the last couple of years she has had to do all of her crafts on a cheap plastic folding table. Since everything wouldn’t fit on the table, she had a couple of rolling carts, an old coffee table, and several stackable plastic bins. My wife and I share this room (it’s where my computer is) and little by little, my side of the room got smaller. We couldn’t even open the door all the way. I finally decided to build her a custom craft table which would make us both happy. She gets to organize her space, I get to play around in my shop AND I no longer have to dodge the previously mentioned carts, tables and bins. That’s a win/win….WIN!

My wife came up with the idea of using fabric on the doors instead of the raised panel that I was going to make. She even suggested I go buy a brad/staple gun to attach the fabric to the doors since my first effort involving glue was a disaster. WHAT? Did my wife just go tell me to go buy a tool? Someone check the temperature in hell while I’m at HD!

I spent about three weekends putting this together and it is the first project I have built using the Kreg Pocket jig. That thing is a real time saver but, my joints weren’t as square/tight as I would have liked them. I guess I just need more practice.

As you can see in the last couple of pics, my wife wasted no time filling every square inch of this desk up. While this desk certainly freed up much needed floor space, it still isn’t as organized as I would like it to be. I’m going back to HD tomorrow to get some more melamine and add a hutch with adjustable shelving. I’ll add more pics when I get that done, hopefully by next weekend.

I was cleaning up my garage/workshop and decided that my woodworking magazines deserved better than to be piled up on a hard to reach shelf. I only needed four to handle my small collection of magazines but when my mother saw them she dropped a hint about all of the magazines she collects. Looks like I will be making a lot of these.

These are super easy to build and I built them out of 3/4” pine scraps and 1/4” drawer bottom plywood.

I plan on adding some card pockets to make it easier to identify what magazines are in each bin.
