In what context are you asking? Are you thinking of using it to pull as a pseudo dust collector for machines? or as a general purpose vac. Member jockmike2 demonstrated the cyclone concept to me where you have an airtight heavy duty plastic container between the vac and the machine. The vac performs the suction but the debris goes into the container. The vac only gets the dust and the air flow makes the vac run twice as efficient. An example of this can be found here.

Hope this gives you some ideas on how this might work.

David

It’s worth mentioning that a couple hundred will get you a really serviceable “proper” DC for your average, one-person DIY shop.

It doesn’t need to cost $1,000 … though … clearly … it’s a much more fun toy if you DO spend the grand ;-)

If interested, search LJ for info about the 2HP Harbor Freight DC—rumored to be $139 right now, with a coupon. I’ve got one (with addition of a $150 Wynn Cartridge Filter), and … am perfectly happy with it.

I primarily upgraded FROM a Big Shop Vac because it wasn’t getting the job done with planing and jointing.

Good luck!

Marius, this is the collector Neil is referring to. This compressor gets rave reviews from most of the woodworking community. There were some coupons in the last Wood magazine that had this for 139 until the beginning of May. Frequently, the collector will go on sale for 179. Not sure how the shipping charges work in your area.

Thanks, David.

That’s the one, Marius, and … aside from my OWN feelings about the DC … I think David’s got it right. I bought MINE after reading LOTS of good reviews about it from others….

Kind of hard to go wrong on that one….

Marius;

The $139.99 coupon is in March 2010 Wood Magazine. The coupon is good until May 19, 2010. HF will scan the coupon so you don’t even have to cut up your magazine. I took advantage of this deal and the HF DC really works well.

Will be doing a review of it, my trash can pre-separator, Wynn 35A cartridge filter (when it arrives) and shop built cart for all of them very soon.

Good luck!
