I am very curious how many of us found this site from Marcs shirt in episode 12 “The Big Squeeze.” I love what Marc is doing out there and would like him to be able in a small way to quantify his influence… Post here if you came to LumberJocks via Marc and lets find out… Marc may be the new Normanator for the internet generation… I am betting this may be the beginning of something bigger for him and we are here to see it happen…

I found out about both Lumberjocks and Marc’s pod casts by listening to the Matt’s Basement Workshop podcast. I’ve been a subscriber for a year or so….

I found Lumber Jocks through an internet search while looking for something that I can’t remember now.

I’m with you Drew. I came here via his mention of the site a few casts ago. His shows are informative and witty. And the one with the contest and his wife was just hilarious. I told him she would give Vanna White from Wheel of Fortune a run for her money.
Welcome to Lumberjocks and a pleasure to meet you by the way.

I was looking for information on (wood) :-) routers, but through the website comment on the shirt I learned of Marc! Really enjoy his work, and especially the fact that he doesn’t take himself so seriously…we need more of that in the world…

I found out through the Wood Whisperer as well. His videos are great, and he also led me to Matt’s Basement workshop as well. He is a great asset to woodworking on the internet!

Martin found me doing my own wood blog last summer, when it was much quieter around here… and I’m so happy to have found everyone else here! I’d looked around and had a heck of a time finding anyone else “outthere”... my how much things have changed in a year!

like scottb, Martin found me. I try not to think of him as a stalker… but then again I’m not complaining he found me either!!
I found the woodwhisperer from being here. Marc’s podcasts are some of the most informative and interesting woodworking shows I’ve ever seen. I love that guy! ...in a totally innocent manly sort of way of course!

I love the sense of community we have established between our sites. A post like this makes me feel like we are really creating something big. I have had comments from people in the past that they are surprised by how much I promote my competition. I quickly explain that they have it all wrong. We are all in the same boat and working toward the same goals. The more exposure, the better. There are so many “potential” woodworkers out there who just need that little bit of inspiration and awareness for them to realize their inclination toward this hobby. And with fewer and fewer schools teaching industrial arts and shop, its even more critical that we all share our knowledge. By cross-promoting, we increase the chance that anyone who looks for us will find us, even if they didn’t know they were looking for us in the first place! :)

I recently watched a podcast on Photography and a group of photographers were talking about the same thing – promoting the competition. They said that “old school” kept everything to themselves, trying to be better than the other guy and the new school (their school, anyway) was to support each other and they would send customers to other photographers rather than keeping them to themselves. This way they became better photographers, a stronger group, they could focus on their own style, and they each were able to learn from each other rather than trying to step on them.
This is the way of the future and it’s nice to see.

I actually found Marc through a fellow Woodnetter when I was looking for someone to finish a large conference table. I gave Marc a call, he called me back (the only one) and through our conversation on the phone he mentioned his website and it was on his website I found a linky to LJ:)
