I recently posted a question about bandsaws in one of the forums and I received tons of great information and advice. The forthcoming and helpful nature of all the guys and gals on this site never ceases to amaze me. Anyway, I stumbled upon a store here in Nashville that I was completely unaware of…General Industrial Supply. I decided to stop in after work yesterday and boy am I glad I did. I picked up a 12” JET bandsaw from their “scratch & dent” area and I only found one small area of rust that can be taken care of in just a few minutes. I’ve done all the preliminary tune-ups outlined in the manual and did a few test cuts. Man, I am impressed with this saw! Its a big step up from the wimpy 9” Delta shopmaster benchtop bandsaw that I struggled with for years. The saw has a 1/2 hp motor, 6” resaw capacity, cast iron table, and an open base. I’m one very happy woodworker.

Great buy. How much did you have to give for it? You will get a lot more things done with it. Also a lot better than a table top saw..

The saw was marked with a suggested retail price of $475, but I picked it up “scratch & dent” for $330 after tax. I was thrilled to find such a great deal and I’m sure I’ll be a frequent customer at General Industrial Supply.

Josh – I’ve driven by that place before, but it was closed (I wish they had weekend hours). What was the inventory like? Loads of scratch and dent stuff, or just a handful of items?

Great price Josh. Especially since it doesn’t even look like there is a scratch or dent. I wish we had a place like that around me. It sounds like a place to get some good buys on good equipment..

Josh, I just stumbled across General Industrial Supply a couple of weeks ago myself. Amazing store! I’ve been twice on my lunch break in the past 2 weeks but that’s not enough time to check out everything in the store. I found it because I was looking for a part from Rockler and just happen to do a local store search and they showed up. Not sure if you looked at that part of the store but they have a lot of stuff. They would probably have the specialty hinge you were looking for to finish that dump truck. Also, for the times that Rockler isn’t running the free shipping special you can call Tom there at GIS and give him the product number and he will order your stuff for you. You have to pay tax but it’s still a nice option to have. He orders on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon (I forget which one) and usually has it there at the store by the following Wednesday.

Nice to meet a newbie LumberJocker from Nashville!
