« Part 2: Xmas in July Part 3 of Setting Up Shop series no next part

Today I found (on craigslist) a free Craftsman Radial Arm saw. It’s the electronic kind with a digital readout for height/bevel/angle (not sure if I’ll trust it) and it was in very good shape. It needs a new table and fence (don’t they all?!) and some lubrication but the blade is nice and sharp and it’s not rusty or thrashed. I’ve seen people selling these for $75 that were beat up and rusty with missing parts.

Best of all, I remembered something from a few years ago… My father-in-law, who also has a Craftsman radial arm saw, found out that there was a recall on his model. He filled out the form and they sent him a new blade guard, along with a very nice, new (solid hardwood) table and fence. So I checked on the model number of the one I just got – the recall applies to it, too! (I also have the opportunity to take $100 in lieu of the parts but I think I’d rather have the table, fence & blade guard.)

In addition to the radial arm saw, I also got a VERY nice (extremely heavy) steel pedestal stand for my bench grinder and three hollow core doors (two of which will become the wings for my R.A. station.)

I’ll post pics later.

Do you have experience with the electronic ones? I’m not sure how much to trust it.

I had to laugh because I was checking CL here for Northern Virginia and someone was also giving away a free radial arm saw. Good find!

The recall is for a either or on the parts or $100. Mine was for the parts, and it is a nice upgrade and a mdf top.
Freebees all the way around. Congrats.

Yep. It’s all that good, clean living. I never drink alcohol (except when I’m thirsty), I never swear (unless I’m angry or something goes wrong), and I never, EVER – oh, wait… sometimes I do.

I ordered the new table and blade guard today via http://RadialArmSawRecall.com – they say it’s going to take 8-10 weeks! I sure hope it comes sooner than that. It’d be nice to be able to use this thing before arthritis and dementia kick in!!!
