Today I found (on craigslist) a free Craftsman Radial Arm saw. It’s the electronic kind with a digital readout for height/bevel/angle (not sure if I’ll trust it) and it was in very good shape. It needs a new table and fence (don’t they all?!) and some lubrication but the blade is nice and sharp and it’s not rusty or thrashed. I’ve seen people selling these for $75 that were beat up and rusty with missing parts.
Best of all, I remembered something from a few years ago… My father-in-law, who also has a Craftsman radial arm saw, found out that there was a recall on his model. He filled out the form and they sent him a new blade guard, along with a very nice, new (solid hardwood) table and fence. So I checked on the model number of the one I just got – the recall applies to it, too! (I also have the opportunity to take $100 in lieu of the parts but I think I’d rather have the table, fence & blade guard.)
In addition to the radial arm saw, I also got a VERY nice (extremely heavy) steel pedestal stand for my bench grinder and three hollow core doors (two of which will become the wings for my R.A. station.)
I’ll post pics later.
