5/2011 Dragonfly Harp
Original design, made from scratch using mostly cherry wood and finished with Arm-R-Seal gloss tung oil/urethane. The inlay is of abalone and ebony set into holly and surrounded by a frame of pink ivory.I have a blog here with over 150 photos and captions detailing the design and construction of this project. I show you all the boo-boos and all the ‘fixes’. The inlay was all done by hand using carving tools. I hope you enjoy looking at my efforts. Donna Menke

Hi guys- long time no visit.

Y’all have been having a great time here and I didn’t know about it. I missed out on the latest ideas from Ms Deb- the ‘famous’ and ‘tours’ threads. And this was my most famous month- big articles in both Woodcraft Magazine, (Pinwheel Box), and Carving Magazine, (Carving a Chipmunk on a Log). Not to mention the Oops! in American Woodworker last month and various reviews of ‘The Book’. I’ll never be this famous again- sob- LOL.
On the other hand, taking a photo in my shop would be disastrous right now. I have stuff all over the place, and no place to walk with all the hunks of wood on the floor. Just cannot put a nice piece of firewood into the stove when I think it may have potential. I have a bunch of pics I took right after cleaning though, so if I need one I can always make believe that is how it looks now. LOL
Always a pleasure to see what everyone is up to. I need to get back out there and work on the harp now. I’m anxious to hear what it sounds like. Donna

This carving is all out of one piece of basswood. Doing the leaves was a tough job because of the direction of the grain.
