Location: near Lafayette, LA

Retired civil engineer; lives in south Louisiana; like to work with hand tools, but I am not a purist.

My wife and I have been married for over 33 years. We were married on my wife's birthday so I cannot afford to forget our anniversary and her birthday due to double jeopardy. We have two adult children along with one grandchild (girl).

Hurricane Gustav (September, 2008) destroyed our house by pushing over a 66" diameter water oak tree into our house, splitting the house in half and opening up a skylight all the way to heaven. Some of the projects I have in my gallery are made from wood salvaged from the old house before it was demolished.

I worked for 32 years for a local public water utility and retired in November, 2010. I stayed retired for two full years, with unlimited shop time, then went back to work in the water business, seeing my former colleagues in a different role. I am now in an administrative role to a professional water industry association. I've failed retirement!

Welcome Don. You have found the right place for woodworking. A great group of people willing to help. Looking forward to see your projects and comments. Work safe in the shop and don’t forget to use pushsticks

Thanks for all the welcomes. I’ve checked out some of the galleries of your projects, and there are some real pros here. I look forward to learning lots from all of you.

I am from Lafayette also, although I have been successful at retirement. My wife is retired also and we love to watch movies until late at night and pride ourselves at being up by the crack of 10:00 AM!
She quilts and I make piles of sawdust.
I have a website at
Looked at your projects and am impressed with your work
