It’s Sunday morning in Oz.
Those that know me, understand that Sundays are special because Sunday is the day I join with fellow believers to worship God.
This morning I rose early enough to turn on my computer to visit the LumberJocks site and take an hour or so to look at the marvelous projects fellow LJ’s have posted. Many of these I had viewed previously, but one cannot get too much of a good thing.
In a strange kind of way, this has been a good preparation for the Lord’s Day. It has made me thankful that I’ve connected with this fine community of like-minded craftspeople. It has calmed my heart as I’ve looked at some absolutely stunning works of art. And it has inspired me as I’ve read the words of some great wordsmiths. What is it about people who work with wood; so often they have a special way with words.
I have come to think of the men and women who frequent this community as friends, dare I say ‘family’? I know this sounds a little corny, but…
In a few minutes I leave to join with my brothers and sisters in worshiping God. Before I do, I want to say thankyou!

It’s not corny Don. What are friends but someone who shares your passion and experiences. We may all be separated by hundreds or even thousands of miles but we all share a passion. My wife calls you folks my “imaginary friends” in jest. I tell her there is nothing imaginary about it….....I think she’s getting jealous.
I’m not a religious man, my experiences have overcome my early upbringing. I do try to be a good man. I envy those that do have a deep abiding faith. I hope when the day comes that I’ll be proved wrong and my Dad will greet me and say “That was a nice chair you made”

Don Thanks for the kind words about “Our Family” I enjoy the frolicking about as we fritter from one topic to another. But we all sit down like a “good meal” and share that which is best.
I welcome these meals together as we challenge one another to do better and to do our best in all we do.
We pray, We give thanks for what we have and what we are able to share.

Nothing corny about it. I am flattered and happy to be in this family.

Well let’s see you’re tomorrow minus 5 hours to me, so that makes this about 11:00 Sunday Evening so by the time you read this it will be your Monday Morning. And “family” is what this really is. Not only are we seperated by many miles, but we are also crossing cultural boundries because of our love for wood, woodworking and maybe even tools.
I actually think you’re all corny… which is why I fit in here.
G’day Mate.

Thanks, Obi, one correction. When it’s Pacific Daylight Savings Time in California and East-coast Australian Standard time in OZ, the gap changes from five hours to seven hours – confused? So, it’s currently 10:00pm in Melbourne (Sunday night) and 5:00am (Sunday morning in Modesto, CA.
But you’re correct – we are still both rather “corny”!

Don -
Well said . . . this is a wonderful community of friends . . . a family of those that share the love of wood and creativity. We are blessed to have the technology of the Internet to close the distances and time. I spend many quite mornings before work sipping on a cup of coffee enjoying all the wonderful projects and blogs before heading off to work. I also find it very calming to view all these wonderful pieces of art – frequently more than once! I also get a lot of inspiration from all the talent – pushes my comfort envelope to try something new.

and just as a family, we find our way to unite, share, inspire, support, tease…
Yah, it’s pretty cool.
