My First Stumpy nubs project which I will have to tweak based on what I have. Ok So Planning.
My Motor is a 1 HP off of a 6 inch jointer Although it is a cylinder it has multiple parts sticking out so I will plan as if it is a 10×10 x 13 box (since it can fit snuggly it into one) its mounting holes are slotted which will help with belt tensioning.
I want a 2 inch clearance on each side of the motor for air circulation and heat disbursement.
The angle of the motor and main body section of the Nubby one plans is found by :
looking at the right triangle. Back Height (9.75 inches) – Front Height (4.25)= a leg of 5.5 inches. after talking to a dead greek guy I figure the angles to be about 12.38, 77.62, and 90.
So I want to keep the angles, but with the large motor, the new height required for the “wedge board” for the lead screw device and my need for clearance I have to extend the base to 30 inches. Then to maintain the 12 ish degree rise from front to back while clearing the motor along the hypotenuse. So I will end up with a trapezoid about 13.5 in back, 7 in front, and 30 inches long. Width should not be affected. I plan on laminating together 2 pieces of plywood for the base and cutting dadoes on the table saw for the sides in order to help assure all remains parallel.
