What did YOU get for Christmas

Blog entry by DocK16 posted 336 days ago 488 reads 0 times favorited 33 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Okay boys and girls, couple months ago everyone posted their “wish list” when the government anounced their economic stimulus check (return of our own money). On somewhat the same note; give it up, what did Santa bring you for your shop? I guess I’ll go first: a hot iron to mark/brand all my projects. Yeah it was a wish list item…...........by the way Merry Christmas morning everyone.

I got a lump of coal. Anyone ever tried to turn coal on the lathe?

Oh, and I also received a power reciprocating carver and a Woodcraft gift card.

Merry Christmas DocK.

I woke up. That was a good start. Waited for the skies to clear then spent a few hours outside making noise and sawdust. Of course the best gifts I received were “Merry Christmas” calls from our kids. All is good. Merry Christmas one and all.

Well this morning I made off like a bandit. My girlfriend gave me the best present of all, the ability to wake up with her. Second to that she got me a set of 2 Cherries straight chisels, a set of 2 cherries miniature carving tools, a set of Henry Taylor Skew Gouges, and a set of miniature planes. I now have a very nice selection of carving tools and hope to make some nice projects in the future. To Heidi, Love you baby.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

2 Auriou Rasps (yeah that’s right!), several Rockler and Lee Valley gift cards, a router sign making template kit, new dust mask and plenty of filters, woodworking ornaments for the xmas tree, clothes, etc…
The best of all was waking up with both our daughters at home, just like we used to every xmas day, absolutely the best present of all :o)

Trifern, from what I’ve seen if anyone can turn a chunk of coal on a lathe you can. And, the result will be beautiful.

As for me, I did pretty good. The BOSS was very good to me this year.

Delta 50-760 DC
Worksharp 3000
Rockler digital height gauge
Rockler fence clamps
Shopnotes Volume 15
Harbour Freight 18 gauge air nailer
Shop apron from Duluth
Some cash for my toy fund

I must be a good little boy. Hope everyone’s Christmas was as Merry as ours.

Lets see…the wife and I gave ourselves an early Xmas present of a 52” LCD HD television, and a dual tuner HD Tivo so we just picked out a few small things to put under the tree…i got a few T shirts (Will work for wood) a set of Lie Nielson cabinet scrapers (thanks for the motivation Todd) some Bessy clamp extenders, a dust collection hood on an adjustable stand for my SCMS, a Woodcraft hat, and a few Woodcraft gift cards…so for me it was very Woodcraft Christmas! Hope everyone else had a safe and happy one!

I guess I will jump in here. My lovely wife and my boys got me the following: (1) A desk lamp for the computer desk (for when I am up at 2am answering Lumberjocks posts). (2) A couple of t-shirts and a couple of waffle Henleys (3) A couple of charging stations for electronic gadgets (unfortunately not from The Wood Whisperer). (4) A couple of bottles of Stetson (my wife’s favorite, of course). (5) A 14-gauge, 30 foot retractable extension cord for the shop (6) Two set of Craftsman straight handle nut drivers (one standard and one metric).
The real haul will come at my parents house. I will update you when that one comes in.

From the looks of it, everyone has been blessed this Christmas. Even though I have received some wonderful and very needed gifts, the best part of my whole day was spending time with the family. There is nothing in this world that could replace the looks on the faces of my 3 and 5 year old when they were ripping the paper off of the presents this morning. I am sure we will look back on that video in a few years and cry.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful day, and I hope the new year brings happiness and prosperity to everyone.

I was allowed to open my gift “early” as I could no longer sit and look at the box without whining. Anyway, I got a router boss which quickly found its way into my shop! I also got a new DeWalt router (similar to the one in the picture).

Let’s see, I was very fortunate this year, I got a Veritas scraper set, 50-760 DC, DW 735 Planer and the ability to spend a couple of grand on renovating my shop this winter. I didn’t know I was that good a boy this year…

All I have to do first is renovate our last bedroom, then I can get started on the shop.
The best of all was spending time with my family and having my 86 year old father still with us to celebrate another Christmas. and happy birthday Jesus.
Thanks to all.

I bought myself a mini lathe so I could turn a cane for my wife’s mother. I bought myself a new 17” laptop computer so I can take good notes at the woodworkers club meetings.

My wife has found that I exchange most of the items that she buys me. Of course she returns most everything that I get for her. So it’s the thought that counts.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years everyone.
