I wanted him to make a tool tote, he wanted to make an axe; so we compromised on a birdhouse.

I got the plans from the Kreg Jig website, and it is really a bird feeder but we adjusted the plans a little. We made it out of old privacy fence boards. He did most of the measuring and cutting; I just showed him how to measure twice, cut once. Even then there were a couple miss-cuts (which were my fault, kind of).

It is not quite finished, the plans call for plexiglass on the sides so have to run to the store to get some.

Nice birdhouse you guys…My two cents is you should build next a wood axe I have made and seen swords but never seen a wood axe bet it will look cool and be a memory you can make a tool tote as well….but that’s my silly opinion..

It’s great that you are creating memories with your son! I look back on the time with my dad in the shop as highlights of my childhood. Building great memories (and bird houses)

I cant wait to get my daughters into the shop to make our first project!
